Andrew Casey's Cancer Battle

Andrew Casey's Cancer Battle / Formerly Please Help my Son's Fight with Cancer!

Please read this old topic First. Realize the Forum Posts were done in 2005 & 2007. I was commenting on another childs struggle and how I could relate it to my Son's first Illness in 1995 At Age 5. It's Ironic That in 2010 At Age 20 I am right back at ground Zero.

06/19/12 Yet another Ironic Posting.

FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!

Dear Friends,

I do not often post on my private life & do not wish to burden anybody but I need your Idea's

If you read the above topic you know of my families past history with leukemia. I never thought I would have to deal with it again.

On thursday morning I got the call at work from my wife. My son Andrew had been feeling very bad & went to the local walk in clinic. They found nothing remarkable & thought it would pass.

My son asked for a cbc test which would check his blood count. The test showed an extreme white count which is a symptom of leukemia. My wife then begain the process of finding where to go to get a confirmed diagnoses and so forth.

I sat in a disbelieving stupor for about 5 minutes & then told my Boss what was going on. He told me to get home & take care of my boy. I left & drove home in a daze.

We were run here & there and finally we were referred to a specialist out of town. On friday afternoon we had confirmed leukemia although the exact type is not yet known. By friday evening he had a tunnel port surgically implanted for chemo. They certainly did not waste any time.

His old records are going to have to taken out of storage by the hospital so no treatment could be done untill monday so he was allowed to come home & be a couch potato. That was a bit of a comfort.

Today his mom took him for more tests & will likey be admitted to the hospital today. I am at work trying to stay busy & help out although my head is not quite here.

I hope my words are coming out clear I feel like everything is surreal.

FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!

I refuse to believe anything other than my son will come through this with flying colors.

What I need are Idea's for Fund raising for my son. I plan on doing a website although I have no Idea how to do it. I will apply for any assistance programs my son is eligible for. I am sure some of the members have also had some experience in these situations.

I am extremely uncomfortable asking for help in this situation but I must put the needs of my son & family first.

Please help me figure out how to raise funds to support his medical expenses.

Thank You!

KC

KC, I am sorry to hear this. I understand first hand. I lost my mother January to cancer and my cousin in March to Lukemia. I do know that khemo does work for many people. I do not know how to do a large fund raiser but if you post a pay-pal account to donate to I will send funds to help. Rich

update!

My wife called at 4:30 This Afternoon and we got a final diagnoses. It is A.L.L. It is the same type of cancer he had as a child. If it had been something else we may have got by with conventional chemo by itself. Now he will most likely have to have a bone marrow transplant.

The most likely donors are siblings and parents in that order. My daughter shown in the early pictures is just turned 18 and had no hesitation in offering herself as a donor. We will still have to be tested for compatibility but I am proud of my girl for her quick decision. Dad and Mom are also at the ready!

Andrews Chemo starts tommorow and he and the wife will be out of town for the rest of the week while he is getting treatment. He only left this A:M: and I miss him already! Wife Too! They will be home this weekend and I can't wait!

Kevin, I'm sorry to hear about this. I was just with my wife's aunt yesterday who's leukemia has just gone into remission after 5 rounds of chemo and just found out 3 weeks ago my cousin,'s wife just got diagnosed with Lymphoma, a form of leukemia. God is big and works in mysterious ways and all will be well, especially with the technology we have today. If you need help talking to someone or asking questions, let me know. We have a good friend who is a cancer research scientist at UCLA. I will post this everywhere and get the word around. We all share our fun and passions here on the forum and you have helped us all in the past and in these times, Im sure all will come forward and help.

Kevin, I'm so incredibly sorry to hear that it's back. Unfortunately, you already know first hand what he, and your entire family will go through. It's terrible and my heart goes out to you. I don't know anybody that hasn't had cancer touch their lives in one way or another. My husband lost his 5 year old daughter to cancer in 1992 and a friend just lost her 16 year old daughter to a brain tumor in February. As far as fundraising goes, there are so many possibilities. I will try to get some ideas together today and PM you. For starters, a paypal has been sent. -Jill

I just can only imagine how a parent must feel about his son being passing through this. My best wishes to all of you and pray that God will put his mighty hand on Andrew and help him get over all of this. I took the liberty to put the paypal link on my sig so anyone who wants to help can see it. I posted it on my fb too.

Eduardo

KC,

Consider a car show/fund raiser. I am sure you could get guys (and gals) to come from all over to participate. $20-$50 per entry, all money raised would go straight to the cancer fund.

I have seen these work well, and with your connections and rep I don't see it being a problem to get entrants... You can also go to other shows and drive-ins and hand out flyers. And if you son likes cars, it might be a small distraction from the treatments.

Good luck to you and your family. Positive attitude is as important as your choice of treatment when fighting cancer. I know you will succeed!

Thank you All so much!

I am very touched. It seems so many of us are effected by the dreaded cancer. One of our technicians shared that his mother just had a large tumor removed . I shared with him the things he can do to get by that I know. Her journey with chemo will start very soon.

I will post updates as I recieve them on Andrew.

Kevin, i feel for ya brother. Ive been through this with my dad twice, my ex wife, and as of two weeks ago both of my grandfathers. my remaining grandfather is going through lung cancer at the moment, taking both radiation and chemo. Its a tough road for everyone involved, the patient and family. Be strong and have faith, you'll get through it.

our thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family. If there is anything here that the TMS staff can do, please let us know.

Also with your permission, id like to maybe move this to an area with a bit more site traffic, or put an announcement up or something.

Andrew's Pride & Joy.

1972 Dodge Charger 400 Auto, Air,BULLITT Mustang wheels & Hideaway lights. Grandma & Grandpa bought it for him when he was 16. We have been Trying to make er roadworthy for four Years. He has never driven it.

Dad Has always been a Mopar & Ford Guy and Andrew loves both as well. He wants my old 67 Ltd fastback in the background. Before he got sick I told him to save up his money & I would sell it to him. It has not been on the road since 96. Lots of creatures & rust to deal with.

I hope to make the Dodge roadworthy by the time he is able to drive again. Being a partsman for 25+ Years I have no problem getting parts together It's just getting them on the car.

Anyway I just wanted to let everybody know Andrew is definetely Car Crazy.

His Dream Mustang would be a 67-68 Shelby Fastback!

Thanks,

KC

Anything you feel would work better is appreciated. I am working in a pretty raw mode at the moment! All I ask is that I can have moderation control in whatever forum it is put in. Just in case an inappropriate post gets in I would not want my son or family to read.

Jill, Thank you so much for your Donation & Time. Also my heart goes out to your family cancer battles as well.

I don't have the P.M. feature enabled cause it caused confusion with my parts orders.

I would like anybody who wants to contact me in regards to Andrew to use the same email as used for PAYPAL donations. andrewjcaseyfund@aol.com That way I can keep it separate from my Tms Sales.

If anybody would like to send an email for The Family to read please use this Address as well. Just put in the subject line what the email pertains to. For example GET WELL WISH, Fundraiser Ideas Etc.

MGB,

Kc
