projector headlights

I have been looking for a decent project headlights for the stang. All options seem ricey to me.

So I came to the conclusion of building a set.

I want to retain the factory look as much as posible, maybe smoke the headlight covers as well.

The dilema here is that I am looking for the largest possible projectors. Anyone know projectors that are larger than 2.5inch? I was looking around and nothing found. Im looking for at least 3inch or bigger projector. if I can get a 4inch one id be set.

My plan is to put the projectors inside the housing and use bixenon bulbs in it.while still retaining the reflector as a backing.

I was planing on buyng a set of oem headlights and try my luck. So now i just need the projectors.

Any ideas? I want to retain the classic look of the car, so no rice or overlychromed headlights.

Good luck, I dont mean to sound like a jerk but multiple people have tried to make it work & it never works out... But if it works I'd be interested...

Not sure I understand how you can retain the classic look of the car if you are going to be using projector style headlights. Wouldn't mind seeing the look though. I just haven't been a fan of the cheesy looking replacements that are out right now. I'm sure you are referring to the same ones I have seen.

I think if you could find/make a GIANT projector that's the same size as our current reflector - and then use that w/ no reflector, it may look good..

Man I haven't seen those either, I like them but would like to see what they look like on the car. Also I would like to what the quality is like. I would hate to pay $695 for a piece of crap...
If anybody has there or is putting them on please post PICS...

Well I bought a second set of headlights. I also bought a bixenon projector retrofit kit with no ballast. The projectors came in today, they look awesome, however they are designed as H4 retrofit projectors.

I will be posting a build log soon. Watch this space I guess.

Project

Alrity I bought a set of aftermarket headlights, they are oem style though.

Here is the kit I bought. Its a 6000k, bixenon kit with clear lenses and angel eyes. (I will remove the angel eyes, not my taste)

Inside the box.

The projector itself.

The front.

The side.

Wires harness for one projector (two included)

Wiring diagram.

The take apart diagram.

This is after some work with the heat gun. and drill.

Closeup

One more closeup.

With ought the stock shroud.

Just the reflector and projector. They are now one unit.

The back.

The stock dust boot.

Side shot.

All in all about an hour worth of work.

I still have allot more to do like remove the angel eye. Its blue and my car is not a bmw. Till next time.

Well I got some more goodies in the mail today. I am wating for one more part then I can truly begin resembling the headlights. Lets just say I drew some inspiration from the 2010stangs headlights.

I have about 300bux invested so far. I have tested the projectors and I can tell you they are sick. They truly project the light properly.

Just a question though. Would anyone consider buying a set of these if I were to build more than one set?

Well Ill let the cat out the bag.

The only reason I am holding on the project is that I do not want to continue on without the rest of the parts.

Here is the plan.

First is to remove the ugly blue CCFL angel eye on the projectors. This is a mustang and not a ricemobile or a euro BMW. I will replace the gap with a chrome ring to blend in.

Secondly I ordered some amber Plexiglas 1/4inch thick. I will cut the plex to size and put it in the holes on the black shroud. Then I want to cover the plex with lens paint and turn them black and then clear coat them. I also purchased some white led's to place behind the plex and use them as turn signals.

The last thing is to put a led angel eye ring behind the projector to light up the reflector when the headlights are on. This will be white so the headlights don't look like pinholes at night. It should allow me to keep the mustang look and still have projectors.

The last thing im waiting on is the rings. I ordered them and I am waiting on them. Should be a couple of weeks.

In the mean time this weekend I will cut some plex and shape it properly, and go to through the motions of installing it.

I am also considering putting a slight tint on the headlights. Haven't decided on it yet.
