What happened to my brakes
Well driving home today lots of gravel on the autobahn from construction. Get to the gate at the base and a beater BMW in front of me and I hear grinding and squealing. I turn the radio down and pull toward the gate guard and realize it my car not the car in front of me.
Drive the mile up the road to the house. The right rear rotor has a light grove all around it.
1.What happened?
2. Rock got stuck in the pad?
3. Should I take it to the dealer or just get some aftermarket pads and call it the day?
Car has 6700 miles(4 laps on the nurburgring)
Gonna pull the other rear tire and brakes apart after dinner to see what they look like. Heading back the US in morning so now time to fix it right now.

Is that a gouge in the rotor or just a spot where the pad wasn't making contact with that area?
It looks like a gouge and if it is I'd say something got caught up in there looking at the damage to the pads as well.

Not really a groove just feels ruff. The inner pad is messed up to and there is no lines like the outside.
Top pad in picture is the outer pad.

I'd say replace the pads. The original ones don't look so good, looks like something dragged across the pad. There are plenty of options for aftermarket pads depending on your use.
Is the rotor ok?

Yeah I'm always worried about this happening too. When I can I'm going to do the Roush rear rotor upgrade and pads.
When I heat the brakes up during spirited driving like the Nurburgring I get some squeal when I turn to the right. It might be some heat warp on the backing plate up front. I need to have had time to check it out.
