That's a lot of (pricey) upgrades. And why I think its going to push 40k.

Awesome machine though!! GO FORD!!

its clearly a very different car than the GT500 even the PP package version so i dont think they are worried about cannibalizing buyers from one or the other i think 40k or more could be likely

I don't know man, that's GT500 territory. You think Ford would offer two completely different high performance vehicles at the same price, targeted towards two diffferent audiences? I think it's possible, but not likely. Never really heard of it before.

well a C/S pack car is is pretty deep into the thirty thosand range(well optioned). The boss is going to have a good amount of just drivetrain upgrades in which the c/s did not really have any. Lets just say the c/s is $37,000 and then add in all the items listed in the OP. I hope its under 45k but I just dont see it happening.

I think the car with no options will definately be in the high high 30's. My reasoning? That "slip up" where the announcer "accidently" outed the Boss as a 430HP 30k car was most likely supposed to happen. Magically the car comes in with 440HP pleasantly surprising everyone. From a content perspective under 40k seems like a steal but most of the really expensive changes (engine) probably don't actually cost Ford that much and alot of the development could have been pushed to Ford Racing. The other clues are the price rumor in the major mags which indicate under 40k for the base car. I highly doubt Ford would allow a 10k+ mistake to make it into print before they could correct it. Ford definitely wants to manage expectations in this regard.

I'm with you. I would love for this thing to be in the low 40s but you're right, this thing has some extensive upgrades that plain and simply can't be cheap.

More evidence and I guess this would indicate a ceiling of 48k

"It will be priced somewhere between a Mustang GT and Mustang GT 500 when it goes on sale next spring, says Ford Vice President Jim Farley."

I've read that the radiator is bigger too.

EDIT: The reference is found here:

I've also read the TiVCT programming is revised as well.

From looking at the gallery it seems the Boss is the modern version of the 2K Cobra R.

The non LS can't be 48k..that is way to high of price IMHO. The car starts off as a stripped GT...I am guessing with all options right around 40-42k and the LS another 5-6k...That's my guess

yup, missed that, good find! I haven't seen anything printed about the revised ViVCT but I would think it would have to be given the increased rpms and different cams.

That is probably the best of the big mags as far as getting all the details of the car except for one thing. The opening line is "Modifications under the hood are modest". Apparently they missed the engine pdf, lol.

I read they revised the PCM to provide more engine braking, something about braking more deeply into a corner. I'm looking for the reference.

EDIT: I found the reference in the article discussing how the 302R was used for development testing. It also mentions some additional plumbing changes that were made in addition to the rad.

Also, under the hood the Boss radiator was redesigned and plumbing changes were implemented to more effectively use the additional airflow the new fascia aero treatment was able to supply – all changes that have been implemented on standard production Boss models and the race-ready Laguna Seca cars.

Using software that plotted oil pressure at specific g loads and at particular parts of the track, engineers isolated the motions causing oil starvation. Based on the track telemetry, baffles were added in specific locations, eliminating the issue without adding any more weight than necessary.

To aid the brakes, an aggressive engine braking algorithm was employed in the powertrain control module (PCM) – the engine braking allows the driver to brake later in turns, reducing wear on the friction brakes. Brake cooling ducts from Ford Racing were found to dramatically improve fade resistance – the ducts became standard on the 302R and the Boss Laguna Seca, and are available over the counter for standard Boss models.

7500 RPM limit
Perhaps we are missing a hint about the 7500...

Planning began with a small group of engineers within the 5.0-liter V8 team. Starting with open minds and enlisting the help of two members of the original 1969 Boss 302 design team, the group began working its way toward the ultimate evolution of the new 5.0-liter: 440 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque, along with a broad, flat output curve all the way through its projected 7,500 rpm redline.

“In keeping with the spirit of the original, the new Boss 302 engine achieves its maximum power output at speeds at or above 7,500 rpm,” says Harrison. “Unlike the original engine, however, low-speed torque and driveability are uncompromised thanks to twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) technology and computer-aided engineering design tools.”
