It's cool, they are shipping all new builds with pre-melted pistons as of 6/20

There's more than a couple w/ aftermarket tunes that have ate it. Some tuners even recalled tunes and sent out new ones to avoid these issues.

Bottom line is most tuners don't really understand the way the 5.0 behaves yet, and old tuning strategies for the 4.6L won't necessarily behave the same way.

If you've got a BOSS, wait for TracKey, and if you've got a GT, get the FRPP tune.

So - tuner pushing the edge destroys a relatively new motor. While unfortunate, I fail to see how this pertains to a stock motor, excepting the occasional manufacturing defect. Happened before, will happen again. That is the occasional price we pay in pursuit of cutting edge performance. I blew up a motor once tuning, but I chalked it up to general warranty-voiding jackassery, learned, and moved on.

If the implication is that there is a systemic defect in these motors, this is a poor argument to support that statement.

As I understand it, the GT and Boss use different pistons any way- The Boss has forged pistons. Problems with the GT don't necessarily translate to the Boss.

This whole story seems like a hoax to me.

Bottom line on this thread is your dealer probably lost two allocations and doesn't know how to break it to you so he made up another BS story.

When I spoke with the Boss ford team Guys I met at Mid Ohio Track, we talked about aftermarket tunes. I know they are Factory guys and all but he made a good point. Somenthing to the effect of ... " I would be leary about aftermarket tunes after seeing how many thousands of hours our team takes programing all the parameters, I would not turn my $40K car over to some guy to change various performance parameters after a few hours on a Dyno"
I guess when I can out-drive my Boss (wiht the elusive Trackey), I'll start looking at a 302R. With 4 track days a year, I'm a long way out!

Bossdog, I came to the very same conclusion after talking to the actual Ford engine tuners.
The complex interlacing of all the program subroutines together with the encripted paramater listings, I just do not see how an outside shop can know or understand all the interrelations.
But owners are free to spend as they think best....

I suppose if there's just enough available information/parameters to get people into trouble, then perhaps that's a problem.

The race shop I took my car to for the Dyno run said leave it alone when I asked what I thought they could do to improve it.

I once had a salesman tell me you couldn't get a GT in grabber blue because he wanted to sell me the V6 on his lot

Bottomline is, some of them will say and do very stupid things.

And those #8's are most likely poor/overly agressive tunes

That's what I was thinking, especially since he told me that it may take some months before the problems could be fixed. Can you say Q2 turned into Q3 or Q4?

and few other than ford have access to "ALL" the parameters!
