Think about this. You can do all those NA mods mentioned here to get an existing motor over 500rwhp and it will cost close to $6000 I bet, after its all done and said. For nearly twice that you can get a whole aluminator engine.

As much as I love NA and would love to mod up to 500rwhp it just isn't cost effective. And if I want power, a $6000 tvs will put out 5x the power upgrade of the CJ parts.

Is it safer to run a 500 wheel NA motor or a 750 wheel FI motor?

Well, FI will wear a motor out sooner no matter what. Depends on how you use it too. Maintenance of highly modded, hard run motors (NA or FI) will always be high.
The road runner motor will make 600-650 reliable, kinda-safe rwhp. MAX. Beyond that, gets dicey and unsafe, IMO.

All things being equal, I'd go NA all the way. A stroked 351 coyote, ported heads, etc. That would cost $30k! So aside from engine life/wear one has to weigh practical costs and goals.

$6000 in cams/cj intake/tune/labor/headers, etc. = +100rwhp MAX
$7500 in TVS SC/labor = +250rwhp (which you could tune down if you wanted or pulley swap).

For some, its merely a question of how to add RWHP for drag/race.
For others, its to get RWHP bragging rights and stay NA.

Both are personal choices.

shouldn't be to hard, I've seen regular 5.0's make almost that much with an aftermarket cold air, tune and boss intake along with catbacks so the only real power adders there are the tune and intake, the rest is just for some sizzle on the steak.

In cool air said combo read 480hp on a dyno dynamics dynamometer which may or may not have been in shoot out mode.

edit---> correction ---> 430, was thinking 480 at the crank.

I think you will get the most out of Comp Cams. If I were to install cams...which I will do after warrenty is up (2 more years) it will be comp cams along with the FRTB and a few other items.

I would go with the Comp Stage 3 cams to be honest. If you are going to go cams I would do intake and exhaust and even then I would choose the Comp Cams over the Cobra Jets as the Cobra Jets were designed to provide great performance at the top end of the spectrum where you are going to live while drag racing while the Comp Cams are geared more towards overall performance.

Which Comp Cam is the "Stage 3"? 191100? 191160? What other mods are necessary to run these cams?

The mods list is

Ford Racing Cobra Jet cams M-6550-M50BEXH and M-6550-M50BINT
Ford Racing Cobra Jet Manifold M-9424-M50CJ
Ford Racing Cobra Jet Throttle body M-9926-CJ65 (dual blade)
Ford Racing Cobra Jet CAI M-9603-M50CJ
Bassani Xhaust long tube headers
Bassani Xhaust X Pipe with test pipe adaptors
Bassani Xhaust race catback

I picked up the car today from Cunningham Motorsports in Murietta.

Ryne is an amazing tuner and he has the car running like a dream.

The baseline was 434RWHP and 354RWTQ on a Mustang Dyno The headers and full exhaust were installed before we got a baseline with out.

With the Cams, Manifold, Intake and TB the care made 473RWHP and 369RWTQ.

the car pulls very hard and sounds amazing. I was smiling ear to ear on my way home.

If you are looking to stay all motor I would highly suggest these mods.

Stay tuned for a full write up on www.stangtv.com for dyno videos and install tech.

Trackey is a great tune for stock setup but if you use a knowledgable tuner and a real dyno tune they can put those features in your tune. For example, engine braking is just reduced timing on decel and some A/F adjustments. So ask for that. The crackle n pop is dumping fuel on off throttle which burns off in the exhaust. Etc etc.

Does it pass emissions (OBD-II check, no check engine light) with those mods? Assuming you have cats in addition to the test pipes.....
