Yep

Like it's been said before; they both have 4 wheels, 2 headlights...

I do see the similarities, the headlight design and grill shape. Of course very different cars but overall shape is similar.

I missed this thread somehow. Anyhoo, there will be a next-generation GT500. The only question is when. With all the special edition cars, Ford never has an "SE" version the same year as the all-new car. That is why I expect a new Shelby GT500 for the 2016 model year). They will let the new car get its day in the sun for the whole model year before the Shelby comes out.
Look at when the Shelby 1st came out. That car was a 2007, even though the car came out in 2005. Another car, the Focus ST, will be a 2013, even know we all knew about it for almost 2 years. They let the regular car sell its 1st year before releasing the hi-po model. Just my thoughts

Good point, Jeff. The first year ALL models will be special, so Ford may as well let the standard models have their time in the sun.

I wouldn't say always. If we look at svt's history the first cobra was in 93, the 94 mustang was heavily revised and pretty much a new design. Ford gave us a cobra right away. The same with the 99 and 10 updates. I think the reason for the gt500 being delayed a couple model years was simply they fell behind schedule. Originally Ford execs claimed the svt model would be out 6 months after the initial launch. I'm hoping for the gt500 out at launch with the rest of the lineup.

The first Shelby came out 40 years before the 2007. :

Going to a completely brand-new design, I doubt very much they will introduce a Shelby the very same year the next generation Mustang hits showroom floors. They won't need to, and (this is just me thinking like the engineers at SVT) I want that car to have a year or two's worth of customers ferreting out all the bugs and problems that Ford can fix, and that SVT doesn't have to spend time fixing themselves--that way, they can focus on what they do, which is designing a higher-performance car around a tested chassis/engine.

As a business I'd want to release the gt500 ASAP i wouldnt want to lose sales to GM and Chrysler. Gt500 buyers are not gt buyers. I feel nothing is gained by holding off. I agree that it may be possible but I hope not. We didn't have to wait for the 2010 car, I say carry over the current 5.8 with the new platform like they did in 2010 if they have something new in the works then upgrade it as time goes along like the current 2010-13 generation

The significance of the platform change will contribute to how soon the GT500 is released.

Was the 2010 change as significant as the 2015 change?

Probably not but I'd say similar to the 1993 to 1994 change and Ford carried over the cobra engine. Why not do what they did for the entire 2010 lineup, new car carry over the 5.8 until they have something better

For 2010, what was the change? Interior, body & engine block? Still the same chassis, right?

2010 was a nip/tuck of the S197 chassis. 2015 is going to be an all-new platform from the ground up.
