Water Leaks 'common'?

Just purchased a 2014 GT/CS Convertible last weekend to replace the 1994 Ranger I've owned since 1997 - it was my 'turn' for the new car. Got it home and decided to check out the spare tire and stuff under the wood/carpeted floor panel in the trunk and found standing water (2 cups or so) in the spare tire well and a bunch of mold on the underside wood/carpeted floor panel. Needless to say I was a little surprised. It was apparently an ongoing issue with the amount of mold that was present.

Now reading several entries in this forum it looks like leaks abound in several areas of the Mustang. I've owned the car almost a week and had it in my possession for a total of 36 hours.

The dealership has been attentive and is working on finding and fixing the leak but just curious as to how common this issue is - living in the Pacific NW we get use to the rain but really do not want to own a leaky car.

not that common, but there is a bit of a design flaw in the trunk area that is prone to "weeping" during heavy downpours. your dealer may or may not have experience with it. I had water coming into the trunk (check the sides of the trunk area by the quarter panels, under the carpet) where I had some pooling. The problem was solved by sealing up an extra "hole" that was behind the taillights.

no issues since then.
