2013 GT Manual Transmission / Clutch Noises

Hey guys,

I own a 2013 GT Convertible with a manual transmission and about 6500 Miles on it.
It is making very noticeable clunk sounds when accelerating and deccelarting on low rpm coming from the clutch / transmission / driveshaft area of the car. In general, the whole transmission is very noisy when shifting from 1st to 2nd and feels quite clunky.

Here`s a
describing what I`m talking about. Noises start at around 17 seconds in - keep in mind that the clunk noises are much louder in person since I`ve recorded this on my phone attached to the windshield. I`ve brought the car into the dealership and they told me they couldn`t find anything and that the sound was normal. However, I`ve driven other various other manual cars that did not make these sounds and it`s very annoying when driving on parking lots and low rpms.

Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue? I`m going to try to bring it into a different dealership next week and have them take a look at it. Any help / advice would be appreciated.

I've sorta noticed this especially when the engine is cold. I owned a 99 Mustang that also did the same thing....I always thought it was normal.

It's normal. Every manual mustang I've owned has done that.

I agree it sounds normal to me. Mustang manual transmissions are notoriously noisy. I think you are hearing backlash in the drive train but if you want to be doubly sure have another dealer look at it. Has it done it since new (or is the car new to you)? I am always on and off the clutch when driving slow (1st gear) around parking lots etc.

Hello Xenon,

Welcome to the forum! My name is Deysha with Ford Service and I recommend you have your dealer check it out to make sure there’s nothing else going on. Also, PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number so I can get it escalated to the customer service manager for your area if needed.

See my "clunk & whine" thread. Some clunk is expected from the DS, but the likely culprit can be traced back to out of spec backlash at the diff. If left unaddressed, it can cause issues all the way up to the transmission. I've included troubleshooting results from the ford heavy line tech, as well. So feel free to use that documentation.

Doesn't seem normal to me - I get some of that when shifting but attribute it to my less-than-perfect shifting and the two-piece driveshaft. I don't think that's the case here - another dealer is a good idea.

I had a clunk with the stocker. Threw on a DSS shaft and it was still there, but not as loud. Then when I lowered the car the clunk is no longer there.

I don't heard anything out of the ordinary. The DS will make a lot of chatter at low rpm.
