My Roush axle backs have a cracked weld

I was unloading the trunk tonight and I noticed something dripping from the driver's side rear right under the muffler. Took a quick look and noticed it looked cracked and moisture was coming out. It appears to be a rusted weld on the muffler itself. The axel backs have about 5k on them and were installed professionally. I would assume this is a design flaw that Roush should hopefully cover. I'll inspect it more tomorrow on jack stands and report back. Anyone else experiencing this?

Edit: just found another thread with the same issue. Mods feel free to merge them.

Do they have a small drain hole in the back of them on the flat surface? If not it looks like a bad weld.

I've never noticed a drain hole or anything leaking for that matter. After doing a couple google searchs this appears to be an issue with a few others in the exact same spot.

I'm wondering if there was a bad batch or if this is the real reason they increased $100 over the last couple months...they found a flaw in the design maybe?? It also appears those with issues are getting the run-around. I'll be sending emails out today to the retailer and Roush...we'll see what happens.

I bought them from Stage 3 Motorsports on 6/24/11...same time American Muscle and others were sold out. They've always been good to me.

Emails have been sent to both Stage 3 and Roush but I'm not expecting to hear back today being the day after xmas.

Just an FYI.. The exhaust has a limited 3 year warranty. I just got done reading it which pretty much excuses them from liability on almost everything....so this should be interesting getting it fixed.

Wow! I'm surprised, I'm sure they will do the right thing and fix you up with a new one.

Just climbed under her and noticed it's not just the driver's side, but passenger as well. Drivers side issue is the back side of the muffler and passenger is facing the rear of the car. First pic is the driver's side still dripping after sitting for 18 hours. The other is the passenger side.

In case anyone's wondering, the car hasn't been driven in snow and has only been out a few times this month on dry days. I noticed the rust starting a few months ago, I didn't think it would turn out like this.

I need to get up under mine and examine her.

Hopefully Roush steps up and replaces their product.

I hope so too. I thought I was noticing some light drone under load and they sounded a little more raspier than normal the last couple times I took her out. It's gotta be becuase they're not completely sealed anymore. I have the stock exhuast in storage, I might put them back on to save any more damage.

I have the same broken welds. Front weld on the drivers side, and rear weld on the passengers side.

Time to get BOI and Roush involved. Hopefully they step up or else I'll be going Borla.

Hey guys, I'm gonna check mine too. Last week I heard a squeaking/rattle as checked exhaust making sure it wasn't the hangers. Put my hand under and came out all wet. Didn't think twice about it. Going to check mine tomorrow morning as it'll be dark when I get home. I also noticed a funny raspiness lately as well. Thought it was just cause the car was cold. I have a funny feeling mine are the same. I got mine from AM and they have about 1400 miles on then. No snow or rain driven twice on slightly wet pavement. Hopefully we all get this worked out or I too will be switching.

That sucks! Post back when you talk to them. I've only received an automated reply from Roush stating that I'll get a response in 72 hours.

I have a squeaky creaking sound from the rear too. I bet it's related. Let us know what you see when you check it out.

Called BOI but they are closed for Christmas. Will call them tomorrow and see what they say.

Interesting that mine are breaking in the same exact locations. Makes it seem more like a quality control issue rather than just a bad set or two.

I saw the front on my drivers side was rusted up a few weeks ago not sure about the passenger side. My car has never even seen any rain other than a couple very light sprinkles so idk what's up ... Wonder if Roush will step up.

Looks like we're seeing a pattern with defects in the same location. You're right about the quality control....obviously these weren't tested nearly as much as they should've been. Probably also why they were 1/2 the price of most competitors.
