Fuel Problem Please Help!

I have an 2005 Mustang gt
was having a lag in my acceleration after playing around we figured the cheapest place to start was on the fuel filter... Well a bud of mine tried pulling the clips out only to hear a "pop" after reading some how to sights i found that i had the quick disconnect type of plug in... so now i'm stuck trying to find a green retainer clip... only problem is no one has ever heard of it or so they say... dealer says only way to get that clip is to buy a whole new line... which i find hard to believe that i have to buy a 200 dollar line from the filter to the gas take just for a oval ring? i hope ya'll have some ideas...
thanks for reading
Daniel

I am not familiar with the area that this is going to be used in, but from the picture wouldn't just a screw adjustable o-ring clamp work?..

No i wish it would... that ring is in the cupling of the fuel line... to get the filter out you have to squeeze the line connector between your two fingers to make that oval a circle... to get it to hold or let go of the filter...
thanks tho...

These are only available in a complete fuel line. Ford doesn't service them seperately; I work for a Ford dealer parts department.

Are you serious? That's ridiculous 200 dollars for a 30cent part? Do you have the part number so o can maybe find the line out side of the dealer ship so I can try to get it cheaper...?

I work at a ford dealer in northern California and we have a fuel line repair kit. You would cut the old line off about a foot away from filter and press fit another fitting on. It's way cheaper and I probably only takes about a hour. Maybe check will your local auto parts store and they might have a fuel line repair kit to rent.
