Found base of a Rattle Please READ
Hey guys....so I've had this terrible rattle that i could not find for the life of me. I thought it was coming from the far right A-pillar. Well the other day i told my sister to drive while i sat in the passenger seat to see if i could mark the rattle in the A-pillar.....low and behold it wasn't even coming from that area. It was not to the left of me. So i i figured it had to be in the middle somewhere. Now i know its not the rattle from the TSB 6-4-1 because Im going to have that fixed when i take car in for the latest recall. TO get to the point....the rattle is coming from the above map lights and head unit above the rear view mirror. That plastic box that has the map lights in it. For some reason it rattles when you go over bumps and if you lightly tap it it makes the sound I've been looking for for months. Now the real dilemma is how to fix it. I notice that when i push on that area towards the roof it stops...MY question is has anyone figured this out before me and has been able to fix it.??

I use the "sticky back" velcro for situations like this. It's available at most craft stores in 18" strips. Usually I only use the felt side, not the hooked side. Use the adhesive backing to stick the felt half to the area of the problem (behind a panel or whatever). The felt portion then fills the gap and prevents rattling of hard metal or plastic pieces. If the gap is big enough, you could use both sides and literally velcro the two pieces together.

I bought some double-sided foam tape for a slight rattle under the IUP aluminum end piece (with vent installed) on the far right side of the dash - passenger's side. I lifted the trim piece up and inserted some of the foam tape. Snapped the trim pice back down and so far, no rattle.

I sometimes found that if it's cool out & I'm hummin alone theres the odd small squeek but if I crank up the heater a while to warm the interior that it must expand all the plastics and whalla no more sqeeks. for the small issues anyways.

Hey, I know this is an old thread, but I have the same **** problem - but with the rear-view mirror. It took me weeks to locate, but I'm now sure it's the rear-view mirror. Has anyone ever had the same issue as me?

Tighten the screw. Either that, or shim the mirror slide mount a little bit. Use a thin piece of plastic, say a water bottle or such, and cut strips until you get it tight.
Unless it's the arm itself, then you could wedge something in the ball/socket, then adjust it to keep it there...
But I'd be gettin' a new RVM if that's the case.

Thanks, houtex. But I cannot locate any screw on the inside windshield mounted rear view mirror. Where would it be? Also, I've done some trouble-shooting, and when I tap the mirror, I hear the rattle. But if I hold the top of the base (where it's mounted to the windshield), and also tap, no rattle. Ideas?

Have the dealer replace your mirror and be done with it.
