Switched to Mobil 1 -- Any Feedback Would Be Great
So I got out in the garage over the weekend and performed the first oil change on my 2014. I have the 3.7 motor and I used Mobil 1 5W-20 with a Purolator Pure One filter. I was just wondering if any other 3.7 owners here have switched to Mobil 1 and if so have you noticed any changes. Things like changes in fuel economy, oil consumption or idle smoothness are what I am primarily looking for. I've used Mobil 1 on plenty of other cars with no problem but I was just wondering how it responds in the 3.7 motor. I don't expect any problems but it never hurts to be on the safe side and pick the brains of those who have gone before me. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

That's what I ran in my '12 V6, no problems, can't say it did anything special for the fuel economy or idle quality, and you shouldn't have much appreciable oil consumption no matter what.
I did always use Motorcraft filters though, can't say how the purolator stacks up to it.

Thanks Ltngdrvr. I haven't noticed any changes with idle either since Saturday. I thought about going by the Ford dealer and using the FOMOCO filter but I have always found the Pure One filters to be really sturdy.

Here's the analysis done on my M1 5w50 after 4800 miles or so, 300 or so of which were at the track.
I was pleased.

I have never had one but looks like it is worth getting.

Those are from Blackstone Oil Labs - $25 per report and very good to work with.

I had been using Motorcraft 'full' synthetic for my last 4 oil changes. I had to buy it from my local dealer and over $60 per oil change with me doing them was too much $$$ . My last oil change, i did myself (i always do my own oil changes) was with Mobil 1 from Walmart, half the price of the Motorcraft 'full' synthetic. I let my engine idle while i put up my tools, i thought my engine (v6) had died because it was so much more quiet with the Mobil 1 oil in it. I use the Motorcraft oil filter.

With a cost of $25 each, I don't do it every time but every other oil change is a good value, IMO.

M1 is pretty good. IME, it's one the thin side and unless you get M1EP, it's a group 3 oil, not true full synthetic.
I have become a really big fan of pennzoil ultra. Especially with the new natural gas base that they use, now called ultra platinum (not to be confused with pennzoil platinum).

It's generally beneficial to do for a while every oil change so you can get an idea of how often to do it, after that you don't really need to test every time. Once you have the intervals dialed in you can just test every once in a while to make sure there's no engine wear occurring.

It's an excellent way to figure out if there's a problem in your motor, internally. When we bought my wife's Mazda3 last spring, the previous owner had done little maintenance and I did a Blackstone report immediately and, upon receiving it, decided to do a couple shorter-than-usual interval oil changes, and do reports each time. You can see the progression of the reports here: https://themustangsource.com/f726/1s...5/#post6736949

Pennzoil is good stuff. I have always used Valvoline full syn. I have almost 300K on my suburban and it is like new.
M1 uses Paraffin good for a woman not for my engine

I have used Mobil 1 in everything I own since it came on the market.
I bought the very last 1985 Mustang that came off the assembly line and filled it with Mobil 1 at 5000 miles. Oil changes were every 10,000 miles. It was a lightly modded GT with 2.73 TracLoc. I routinely got over 30 mpg on the highway (1 trip from Huntsville,AL to Gulfport, MS.... 440+ miles on one tank). I made 100 or so 1/4 mile passes and averaged mid to low 14's (did a 13.91 on borrowed slicks on a cold night). I also auto crossed the car 10 or 15 times.
I was at 111,000 miles when it caught fire (broken POS aftermarket fuel filter). The insurance company totaled it.
I got a call from a guy that said he bought the engine from the wrecker yard and tore it down to rebuild it. He said that the wrecker yard told him it had over 100,000 miles on it and he has never seen a 100,000 mile engine so clean. He told me that the cylinder walls looked almost like they had just been freshly honed.
I think that the extra expense for Mobil 1 is worth the price!

I'm not a big fan of Mobil 1 but I haven't used it in over 10 years so I don't know how it is these days.
Back in the day, I was a huge Mobil 1 fan and used it in my new 93 S-10 4x4 with the 4.3L V6 and later on in my new 98 Chevy Z71 with the 5.7L as well as the ex-wife's 98 Pontiac Grand Prix GT with the 3800 V6.
The problems that I experienced while using it was increased oil consumption, noisier engines, and when I started having oil analysis done on the 98 chevy and 98 Grand prix, the wear numbers were not very good and Blackstone Labs recommended staying with 3,000 mile oil changes. After about a year of analysis results, I decided I was not getting my money's worth and went back to a conventional oil.
When I switched back, I had less oil consumption and engine noise and my lab results were back to being good. Both of the 98 vehicles had oil changes done every 3,000 miles and were taken very good care of. I still own the 98 chevy truck and it runs great with 127,000 miles on it.
Maybe both of these vehicles just didn't like Mobil 1 but I never used it again. On my 93 S-10, the engine was also noisy but I didn't attribute it to the oil at the time and I also had to have all of the valve seals replaced at around 36,000 miles but I also can't attribute that to the oil. I traded this truck in on the 98 with 54,000 miles and it had used Mobil 1 all it's life.
A lot of people like Mobil 1 but I'm just not one of them.

I don't believe using Mobil 1 will hurt anything, I just didn't like how it performed in the vehicles I used it in at the time. Mobil 1 is on the thin side for a synthetic and I've read of other people having noise issues when running this oil.
