Stock A6 5.0 - 12.73 @ 115

Posted on another Forum....

Just got back from the track, i am very happy to say the least. Right off the freeway into the staging lanes after tech the first pass i did a 12.85 @ 114.8 Did a little cool down and dropped to 12.80 @115.171 with no cool down right back to the staging lanes it blasted to a 12.73@115.59 i was so surprised for a auto to be this fast and consistent. I did 8 passes all ranging from 12.88 to the 12.73.
This is 100% stock with 400 miles on the clock and stock tires at 35psi launching on idle with the traction control on. The best part was seeing the driver of the New Camaro ss with his newly installed long tubes drop his jaw at the times while his best was a 13.09 @ 110
Ill get the videos of passes from my buddy here shortly and post them up

The weather honestly was perfect mid 70s couldn't of asked for better. All the runs where with 2.0 60 foots
In a word....wow. I have never been impressed with Ford's automatic transmissions - at least not stock. Assuming that we will soon have a decent sampling of cars running these kinds of numbers, that impression will have to change. Waiting for the actual timeslip, video, name of track, etc.

That is fantastic! Would love to see a A6 on a dyno. Maybe the drivetrain loss is not as bad as most auto's.

****! I hope this is true and that this nameless fellow isn't just blowing smoke up our tailpipes.

What gear ratios are available with the auto anyway?

Why would it be trapping so much higher than the manual? Odd, I will wait for more results. However, wasn't that close to what that TV show got?

You have some weird obsession with the Camaro. I swear every post you make has to reference it.

Not too surprising, I remember reading an article where a Ford engineer said they got their best times in an automatic. Wish I could find it.

Wonder how he launched it. Did he just gas it at green or power brake to what RPM?????

First gear in the Auto is one heck of low gear!!!

Seems like the 2011 Mustang isn't so hard to drive fast at the track after all. Owners have really been putting up some good times.

It's so much fune to poke at though
no not every post does, mind searching?
The thread contains a camaro failing to run fast, (you know because they all run 12.5's) so it's included in my reply.

The Camaro reference was included in the original post that I quoted. I almost took it out as I had/have no desire to start a pissing contest. Probably should have. Oh well.

Wonder if it would be faster with TC off? Trade off of wheel spin or ECU cutting power. Either way looks like the Auto is almost idiot proof to get good times with. I guess I'll find out if I can ever get out of work early enough to run mine.

I can almost promise you that this is correct. Controling wheelspin with your right foot should be faster...and that has been the case in almost every car with TC that I have driven.

I suppose the exception to this would be with cars like the Nissan GTR with launch control.

I hate automatics, but I'll be getting an 11 GT with one if they're really that fast.

Lol why would I know it would be Deathchill that would say something....lol. Of course at denial5.com this run will be chalked up as some reason of :

A. Its a ringer car
B. Its a professional driver
C. The run really never happened
D. Ford finally has a car that can keep up with a chevy.

It is good to hear though that the automatics can get up and go. The 5.0 seems to be doing what was said of it. Even for this time of year. By fall, we should see some really interesting times for the car.

115 mph trap speed? That's 3-5 mph more than the manual trans cars! I personally would have to see it to believe it. 115 mph trap speed, and assuming 3750 race weight (car + driver), would require 392 rwhp to accomplish. That's 20-25 more rwhp than the dynos are showing for the manual '11 GT's. Not seeing how that could be possible. Hate to be a naysayer, but I want proof of that 115 mph trap speed before I'll believe it.

Could the 3.15's have something to do with the trap speed?

The auto's have a different gearing do they not ? 115 is a bit high indeed, but gearing and rim size effect that does it not ?

Remember the conv. GT Motorweek tested? It was a 116 trap speed.

In my experience drag racing over the past 30 years, steeper gearing will improve ET's, but often lower the trap speed a bit (not increase it). The 6 speed auto has an incredibly steep 1st gear, and 2nd and 3rd are steep, as well. Great for ET's, not so great for trap speeds. So, I have no trouble believing the 12.73 ET, it's just the trap speed that doesn't add up.
