Spare Tire Option for 2011 V6 ??

The car has a built in air compressor in the trunk. Thats good news. I just assumed that "mobility kit" meant a can of fix a flat.

Maybe Ford Racing will offer a continental kit to mount a 19" wheel on the back like an old T-bird.

The 2011 GT with 18" wheels comes with a 185/55/18 spare. That's only 26" tall. My guess is the V6 will get the same thing.

I got a full size rim from the local salvage yard and put a full size spare on my '03 Dodge Grand Caravan a few years ago. I 1st thought of this as a possibility as this van uses the Ford/Mopar common bolt pattern, but then figured it was probably 15" as this is what the regular wheels are.

Well, just checked this never used temp spare up in my attic and it is a T145/90D-16" which is 26.275" Dia. Depending on how the steel wheel is stamped, maybe this 16" will fit over the '05-10 GT ('11 V6) brakes. O/A dia is similar to the '11 GT 18" spare so it should fit in the tire well. Definitely will test fit it before I fork out the money for a '05-10 GT 17" spare or an '11 GT 18".

I have found a series of base V6's with a 100$ 17" mini spare wheel option. These cars are fleet vehicles. This option does not appear in the posted order guide.

EDIT: Brian checked it out and the spare tire is a fleet-only option which does not appear in the Order Guide.

When i ordered my V6 with the Pony Package, i asked the guy doing the order if a spare tire came with my car. No, only the 'mobility kit'. Not even an option to pay extra for a spare tire.

I just bought me a 'very nice' tire plug kit, the one that has nice T-Handles to make them easier to use. In the last year i have pluged a flat tire on 'two' different cars without even removing the wheel from the car and both held air just as good as if a shop had done the repairs. So, when i have a flat, i'll just pull over to a safe place and fix the flat while its still on the car and use the air pump to fill to the proper pressure.

Well, I have the yellow-blaze 2011, GT, brembro brake mustang. And there is NO spare tire. All I have is the mobility kit thing. I emailed the dealership sales manager and he reaffirmed that my model did not come with a spare.

That is indeed part of the Brembo pkg.
No spare on the larger brakes.

Still no spare for the V6

So far, the "spare" option is not available on the V6. Hubby and I picked up our new one yesterday and, imagine our surprise, when we discovered the empty spare-tire well under the carpet in the trunk. Our mistake was to assume that all cars still came standard with a spare (at least a donut), and the "minor detail" of no spare on the V6 was never mentioned by the sales rep.

I've owned 7 Mustangs, and recently bought a new '11 5.0L GT (Brembo Package, so no spare tire). I work at a Ford dealership (same one for 12 years) and I consider myself VERY well-versed on all things Mustang as I'm on several Mustang forums. Even so, I didn't even know that the V6 models weren't getting spare tires until this morning when I sold a 2011 V6 (with the standard 17 inch wheels) that didn't have a spare. And if I'm one of the better informed salesmen out there, I suspect most wouldn't know about the lack of a spare tire.

Yep.....no spare for the V-6. I ordered everything 'new' (spare, lug wrench and jack. for a 2010 G.T.) from my dealer for......around $500.00

Okay, I would have a question for all the knowledgeable people on the board then....

we reached an agreement with our dealership to where they will provide us with a 17" spare. The tires on our new 2011 V6 Coupe Prem are 235/50 ZR 18, and for what I've read on various forums and other sites there could possibly be a problem with using a spare tire with a smaller size on the rear because it may damage the limited slip differential.
I found a couple of online calculators for comparing tire/wheel sizes, and the closest I could come to match a 17" spare to the 18" original tires would be to use a 215/60 R17 which would have a -0.30" difference in circumference (a 235/55 R17 would have only -0.23" difference, but most likely won't fit on the narrower 17" rim).

So my question is if a -0.30" difference in circumference would be within an acceptable tolerance for short-distance travel, or do we need to find a closer match to prevent possible damage of the LSD?

Don't put the shorter tire on the rear if you're worried about the limited slip axle. Instead, put the spare on the front, and take a good front tire to replace a flat rear tire.

Well, I just found out that the 17" "mini spare" rim is only a 17x5, which further limits the size tire it can hold. I'm not sure what the rim-width is on the 235/50x18s that came with our Stang, and I don't have the slightest clue what the offset is either so I took a guess on both of those, but playing with the numbers on one of the online calculators some more, I came across this combination which would put the height-difference between the original tire and the spare in 1 millimeter

IMO really short trips with a diameter that is pretty close (less than half an inch) won't damage the LSD.
Just be sure go to the next possible place to get the tire fixed after you put the spare on.
Of course, a tire with only a mm. difference should be fine for a much longer trip.
Heck, just a few psi. air pressure might make the regular tires differ more than that.

Well, so much for my "nice research"! Turns out that apparently there is NO SUCH THING as a 175/75/17 tire...at least not for a car?
I just came from picking up the "Mini-Spare" that my dealership agreed to provide me with, and it turns out to be a 155/70/17, which has a size difference of OVER 5 INCHES in circumference and OVER 1.7 INCHES in height to the 235/50/18 original tires.
According to the sales rep, and a print-out he showed me (supposedly from the Ford website). the 155/70/17 spare tire is what Ford recommends for the V6 Mustang, and the ONLY spare tire they can order for it.
My question here....WTF??????????

185/60 17" is my 2006 GT spare
It is 25.74 OD as stated before.
The 2011 is 185/55/18 which is a tiny bit bigger.
Those would be you Ford compact spare choices.
They should be able to order either.
cdynaco's Marauder spare is another choice.
For a long trip you probably should put the spare on the front.
This may mean a little more work than preferred if the flat is on the back.
Just FYI the last flat I got I used a plug and air compressor to fix it, no spare needed. I just jacked it up to take the weight off it.

Hey, folks. I took delivery of my '12 Mustang on August 1st. Like you, I was frustrated with the lack of a spare tire. I read lots of forum posts, asked two different dealers about it, tried ebay, called salvage yards, the whole shebang, and I never turned up anything that I was *sure* would work. I didn't want to order something sight unseen only to have it not fit, so I finally gave up and e-mailed Ford corporate. One of their team got back to me today, and I registered for this forum so I could pass on the following information:

The Service Part Number # for the Mustang Spare Tire Kit is: CR3Z-1K007-A. Dealers will be able to order it beginning October 1st.

The kit contains the following parts:

1) Spare Tire Assembly
2) 17080 Jack Assembly
3) V17005 Wrench Bag
4) 17A083 Flat Tire Change Instructions
5) W711555 Bolt and Washer
6) 5447240 Retainer

(FYI: if you were to visit www.fordparts.com and enter the part number it will give you a retail price of $720+; please be assured that the price listed is incorrect and will reflect $195.00 as of 10/01/2011)

Do you know it that's for an 18" aluminum wheel like the GT comes with now? or a steel 17" that the 2010 came with..

I took the spare jack kit from my 08GT and put it in the 2012 Auto 6'er the other half stole. I feel better with hers having a real spare, then just a pump with fix-a-flat...

I don't think the spare would of fit my 08 anyway sense I have different wheels / tires then stock.. that and it was extra weight, so it had been in storage sense early 2008.
