Seriously unhappy with American Muscle

Seems like this is forever my common theme. Whenever I give them another try, failure all over. I sure wish I could have that experience that everyone has.

When I got the car back in 2012, i ordered some stuff and from AM and only AM I had parts backordered. GT500 mufflers. somehow was two months out. for ford mufflers? Yet other vendors had them?

instead I just got them from my local dealership, after a month of waiting.

I got their tuner and tunes, and went through at least a dozen revisions. Never did get the "cam" tune to be stalling free. did datalogging and the whole deal.

gave up on that. spent a considerable amount of time on that.

back in January there was a thread about tuning issues with them.

https://themustangsource.com/f800/ba...2-fail-527195/

I expressed my dissatisfaction with their service.

They offered to sell me a wind deflector at a discount.

I was then in the hospital shortly after dealing with my Leukemia diagnosis and the fallout from that.

Well once I got better I did it like an idiot. I took the bait. I ordered that wind deflector from them.

It was and still is on backorder. It's been over a month now.

THIS IS WHAT I'M TOLD??????

Three months for a wind deflector. BTW, I'm pretty sure that stupid deflector was out of stock in January as well. Guess I will never win with AM, ever.

It seems like I see a lot of threads all over the place about AM not shipping items, or items being backordered.

It's making me rethink ordering the exhaust from them.

I've had good experience with AM so far.

But I have been waiting for 2013 GT 500 wheels in 19x9.5 to be back in stock. I've been waiting since January. First I was told middle or March, and now I hear 4+ weeks.

I love the Charcoal color and the design of the AM GT500 wheels, but I need track wheels for the upcoming season, and I may have to go get different wheels elsewhere.

I'm not the happiest guy in the world with them either. I got a shipping notification this weekend, but it didn't have details on what was shipped, and I wasn't contacted about anything else(from this thread).

So either:
1. They realized they made the mistake and didn't ship the product out.
2. UPS lost the box and they found it.
3. They sent me the wrong product(I'm thinking they sent another set of headers based on the only information I can find, the price on the invoice, posted below).

The box arrives Thursday, because they shipped it UPS Ground, so almost 3 weeks after I placed the order. I guess we'll see.

That sucks. But if it's backordered, then it's backordered. Not really sure what you expect them to do. If someone else already has the item in stock, then buy from them instead. Simple...

Hmmmmm, the community smart @ss has a problem.... Should I comment? As tempting as it is ( though we all know that if it were going the other way the Diva wouldn`t hesitate to to drop a snide commment -- or two ) , I think I`ll just stay on topic and say that I have NEVER had a problem with AM.

I guess not being obnoxious, not demanding discounts, nor being all about "ME" works like a charm when dealing with AM when it comes to in demand parts.

Even worse. Look at the year. Been here 13 months with 31 posts. More like someone that is affiliated to AM somehow.

Typically when a company is having a ton of inventory issues and other suppliers are not it is the sign of one of two things.

Either the company is poorly managed, which isn't good, or they are having issues paying their vendors. Either way it's an issue.

I agree. They should have mentioned earlier it was out of stock so you didn't have to wait, but I wouldn't blow up at them for not having an item in stock.

American Muscle seems to be expanding very quickly and maybe it's difficult for them to keep items in stock? If AM isn't your thing, Late Model Restoration, CJPony Parts, and Hypermotive Performance are other excellent choices.

yeah, just sucks when a company offers you a deal on a wind deflector, a nearly $400 part with a $100 discount so you go for it, but then also order other parts (Roush splitter, SHR fuel door) and the other stuff shows up right away, but that one heavily discounted part? backorder for three months.

i've been wanting a deflector for a long time too.

I've ordered from both AM and LMR. Both were roughly the same size orders in terms of $. Both orders placed on a Sunday, shipped out Monday, in my hands Friday. That's impressive service when you realize its coming through customs.

For my AM order there was stuff that showed backorder that I wanted, but I waited until it was in stock to place the order. I also don't have my car yet so I wasn't exactly in a rush. But a backorder is seldom the fault of the person you're buying from. Its a problem in a supply chain that the vendor has no control over. I would never hold a vendor responsible for a backordered part. Of they've placed the order with the supplier there isn't much left to do but wait for it.

If I could provide a piece of constructive criticism, its this: if you're shipping 5 small pieces: how about one medium sized box instead of 5 little ones? UPS drops it on my porch if nobody is home, but one of my boxes blew into a snow drift. No damage, but easter isnt till next weekend and i dont like searching my yard when i should be having my Friday after work beer. But that's a small gripe.

Some people love Wal-Mart, some don't. I have had decent luck and responses both in phone calls and action to my complaints at Wal-Mart. AM is probably the same way, some love them, some don't. Just think of all of those folks that have had such bad luck with their Mustangs, yet we continue to support Ford.

As far as Diva jabbing at people, that does happen but not sure what that has to do with the topic here. I appreciate Diva sharing the experience(s) so that we are aware of the issues that could come about when dealing with AM.

I have had issues with their prepainted parts. 3 tries with the same parts and not flaw free so I gave up for the winter. Now I am going to try ordering the same painted parts again and see if they have improved their quality control. The crappy thing is that the person taking the order isnt the person inspecting the order. The paint facility while technically in house is in a different building. So there is no inspection before it goes out. I have my dice and shaker ready so it is time to roll them again with this order.

If LMR or CJ Pony Parts had the same item I would get them from them. But AM is the only vendor that has the particular item prepainted.

I haven't had too many issues with AM. The one item I've been watching actually showed as "backorder" on the website & if the product was selected, there was an option for them to email me when it became available. They should have this for all their items to help people decide where to buy their parts.

I have always had good luck with AM. I see that they do show when an item is in stock. I can also see a company offering a big discount on an item and then never getting it in because they offered to big of a discount and don't want to lose money on the deal. Not saying that happened here. If I wanted something and ordered it, then found out it was on back order for more than a week or two I would just cancel the order and move on, that is if I didn't want to wait.

Hey,

This looks like a crappy situation. However, this is really out of our hands. I honestly wish that wasn't the case. I personally offered you the item you were after at a great deal. I did offer this price to you before I knew if the item was in stock or not. My main focus was to make sure you were taken care of and not necessarily the inventory on the product. Whether the item was in stock or not, I would still offer you the best possible price. It's clear that we're having some issues with the vendor getting this item back in stock. However, I assure you that we're doing it as fast as we possibly can!

If you're interested in the MMD deflector that is in stock and ready to ship, I can offer you a great deal on that also. Maybe even a better deal since we work so closely with MMD!

Again, I do apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. It also sounds like you've had one hell of a time getting your orders placed with us. I'm not really sure why this is the case and It's a shame that you've had a string of bad luck with us. I promise you this isn't the "norm" and you can/should expect a lot better service from us.

I already have your contact information from your previous order so I'll make sure our CS Manager contacts you directly! Hang in there, we do really appreciate your patience and business.

I suppose it's a good thing they ship the parts in multiple shipments as parts are available, that would certainly be a downer if they held all items until everything in the order was ready to ship.

That said, never had a problem with AM.
