Rear License Plate Problem HELP!!!
Hey Guys,
I just bought my '13 Boss 302 and the rear (left side) license plate hole is stripped. Any ideas what I can do? I'm slightly OCD, so my license plate not hanging securely and evenly is killing me. Please help! Thanks

Could buy a slightly larger screw, or JB weld the hole up and "retap" it (just be careful).

You could also just remove the interior panel, and then install a matched pair of screws with nuts on the inside. Yes, it would be just a bit of work, but you likely don't need to be removing the tag for a very long time, anyhow. That also opens up a whole lot of options for the style of bolt head. Personally, I often use the 1/4" diameter stainless allen head bolts from Home Depot. Sand the heads smooth with some fine sandpaper, then polish them and they will shine almost like chrome.

I do not have my car yet so I cannot answer the question easily. Is the threaded hole a plastic insert or is it drilled into metal? If plastic most of the time you can replace the plastic nut. If it is metal it is more difficult. We see a lot of plate screws corrode into metal trunk lids at the dealer I work for. You pretty much get one shot to fix it if this is the case. I would take it to a dealer or quality mechanic with proper taps and thread chasers. Otherwise if you try to fix it yourself you run the risk of permanently ruining it. Would rather pay a expert to fix it right than shade tree it myself. Just my opinion...
