Oil Cooler Installed
The install took about two hours and added absolutely no horsepower or torque. I used regular hand tools and a small 0-50 in lb torque wrench. I changed the oil while I was doing this and it's about half a quart low. Should I fill it or just let it be?

By adding the cooler, you increased the capacity of the system so you will need to be sure it is filled properly at all future oil changes, especially if you have a shop do it.

It's a liquid to liquid cooler. The stock lower radiator hose is replaced with one that has two ports ( wish I would have took a pic of this) those ports have two lines that connect to the pump or whatever that thing is. As hot oil leaves the engine it passes by cool anti-freeze and and is returned to the engine cooler than it left it. We use the same principle on aircraft engines but we use fuel to cool the oil. In a aircraft you don't want your fuel to get too cold, hence the oil heats the fuel and the fuel cools the oil.

As you can see the first picture shows the stock hose. The 2nd shows the replacement hose with the oil ports. The 3rd shows the the supply and return lines connected.

Thanks for posting this. I have been thinking about buying one of these and installing it myself. Were you able to do this with the car on jack stands or do you have a lift? My 86 VW GTI had this style of cooler from the factory. Had a digital oil temp indicator too.

It can be done with jack stands, but so much easier with a lift.

Let us know if you see a difference in operating temperature -- under heavy load, or beyond the bounds of the thermostat-managed range.

I wish I could and I understand your concerns but I do not have a oil temp gauge. I confident that it does what it is supposed to.
