I'm reading about the Oil Catch Can Seperator (e.g. UPR) more and more and was wondering if this (small) upgrade is a good investment or not. Now I have to admit that I'm not a mechanic, but wouldn't one think that this kind of stuff wouldn't be necessary with the newer engines, like the Coyote?

Maybe someone can enlighten me, what the seperator would actually do?

This was the first mod when i got my car home a few weeks ago and after only a few hundred miles it is interesting to see how much oil and moisture it keeps out of the intake and engine. here is a thread on the subject. I opted for the black on and it looks factory installed quick and easy to install from JLT. Only time will tell if was worth it but it looks cool and i wasted money on worse things LOL

One of the first things I got as well!

The last pic is after 90 miles. We get a lot of blow by. Keep this out of your intake.

^Do you happen to have a picture of how that can is mounted? What kind of bracket does it use? I have a catch can from a different car, so maybe I could make a new bracket and use it on this one!

So for the 5.0 engine, is it recommended to install one or two catch cans? It appears only one (passenger side), if I'm correct?

Also, can you tell me where you found the black anodized one? It appears at JLT it is on backorder until 02/11/11.

I got mine from JLT and got lucky as they had a limited few Black ones left in Nov.2010. I had the can almost 4 weeks before the car showed up I bet the anodizing take a while after they run a batch of natural colored ones. If you can wait i think they just add that "i belong here" look go the engine bay with out to much flash and sparkle like my old chrome valve covers from days gone by Now its all about being stubtle and stealthy . Well at least for me right now

Great product and factory appearing once installed.

There is no mounting bracket. It almost rests on the coolant hose.

You can get the black one from JLT. It's a stealthier piece, but I like the clear anodized.

It's also a very quality piece. Much heavier than I had expected.

So far testing has shown that it's not necessary for you to run one on the driver's side.

Most of us with blown '05-'09's run oil separators as well. The blow by was never really an issue before running the FI, but you'd get blow by with FI.

These 5.0's have a surprisingly high amount of blow by while bone stock.

Honestly, everyone with a 5.0 should be running this. The sooner you get it on, the better.

Takes literally seconds to install.

Here are some pics trying to show how it sits about 1/4" above the radiator hose.

It just hangs freely under the strength of the OEM hoses included.

Quit reading and wondering and go order this now!

By the way, please excuse the dirty engine compartment. I also fixed the orientation of my oil cap.

Thanks for the extra pictures. I already have a good catch-can, but it has an attachment for a bracket. I'll see what I can do with mine.

Got mine today! I first thought I had to uninstall the engine cover to do the install of the catch can, and in order to fully remove the engine cover I would have to uninstall the strut brace. Not so...

Just lifted the engine cover in the front and the connection is easy to reach... Honestly, installed it in about 30 seconds. It's so easy a caveman (me!) can do it! The easiest install/mod I've ever done! Even changing fog light bulbs will require more effort.

Product appears to be of high quality with excellent workmanship! I'll let you know how much oil I'll get within a week or two. But looking at the factory line which I uninstalled, I believe it's going to be oily!

How many of you are running a second catch can on the driver's side?
Almost making me want to order one for the other side...
