Blackstone Oil Report

Just got my oil report from my first oil change (5,000 mi).

If anyone is interested in what they had to say, here it is. Seems everything is normal for a new motor with factory fill oil. Also looks like I had some life left in my oil as well. OLI in my car said 4% when I changed it @ 5,025 mi.

Anyone else use Blackstone? I know this wasn't necessary, but I did it for the fun of it, and for the sake of being thorough. I'm keeping a maintenance log for my car.

PS: I wonder if this was their first 2011 5.0? They sent me 2 reports, the first one said 2011 5.0 24-valve. :P Then a few minutes later they sent a 2nd one with the correct 5.0L Ti-VCT designation. Everything else in the report was the same, looks like they caught their own error. All the values are the same on both reports, just an error in the motor name.

I have used Blackstone extensively for my SHOs, and caught rod bearings that were getting ready to go based on a report from them, so they've already saved me a new engine. I will be using them for every report for my GT as well.

Yeah, I've got the cold piston-slap sound (Between 2000-3000RPM when cold) & a few of the ticks. It's nice to have a little bit of insight without cracking the motor open.

I'm not worried, tho. My car's under Warranty.....but I'll be using Blackstone to keep an eye on the situation.

good thread! I would like to see more results from other members. A lot of people still think they need to waste oil and cash and change their oil every 3k miles. Not necessary at all.

Thanks for posting. It shows the oil life indicator is accurate with 2.4 TBN left. Im curious what style most of your driving is with it showing 4 percent at 5K miles. The oil life indicator appears to have a bit of fudge factor built into it as well but I would not push it.

I usually drive pretty non-aggressively. Light throttle to 2,000-2,500 RPM then shift.

Maybe 10-15 full throttle runs in that entire 5,000 miles. With the occasional full throttle through 1 gear. An even mix of highway & street. Mostly back-country roads (I live out in the middle of nowhere)

Curious if you have a lot of cold starts and short trips? I didnt notice where you are from and climate plays a part also in the oil life monitor. No matter, the olm seems to be accurate and thats what matters.

South Georgia.

Just cold starts in the mornings back when it was "cold" here. I say "cold" because it doesn't really get cold here....it only got below freezing once or twice.

Short trips, not really. Considering I live miles from everything. Maybe one or two when going from a 1 friend's house to another. Like a 5 minute drive at the least.

Also, it's an on-and-off daily driver. I think the most I went without driving it was maybe a week straight.

There was also an 8 hour(one way) trip in there somewhere down to hot-as-hell Florida.

I just had mine done there too! I have almost 42,000 miles on the car and was very happy with their analysis. Gave me some peace of mind. I'll be using them for my motorcycle too next time.
