You have a long way to go to order a 2012, and a really long time before you would be able to get it.

Yup, he doesn't have that long really. 2011 is a short model year for the Mustang. Really I expect we'll have the order guide before long.

Everyone kept saying the 2011 would be a long year. Wonder what changes they are making.

Not much, the changes for the model year will be minor, so no real retooling necessary, just a couple tweaks and incrementing 2011 to 2012. The biggest change will be the Boss, and maybe Ford just wants to get the Boss out with the 2012s so it can join in on the hype with an early release. It does keep it ahead of the Camaro, but maybe they're more concerned with generating hype without directly competing with Camaro hype, as this would fall in a time period when the 2011 Camaro marketing blitz is mostly done, and yet fall well before any 2012 Camaro hype starts up.

I mean the Camaro is still the Mustang's main competitor. The fact that it can compete with a BMW M3 is just icing on the cake, but it'll probably be a while before Mustangs start to get seated in the mindset as an M3 competitor. I mean the new Mustang hasn't proven its reliability yet while BMW does have proven relia-... wait a minute...

Aside from the Boss, it doesn't seem like much is going to change, though I would like to see SelectShift added to the 6-speed auto and for the seat heaters to gain a second heating level.

I don't think they will add MyFordTouch until the all-new car comes out.

As far as any changes, as soon as I have a new order guide and price list for 2012, I will post it up ASAP!!!

I had the exact same feeling when I bought my 2011 a week ago. Wait until 2012 info is released, or go ahead and buy a 2011. I think either route is fine. But, if you go for a 2012, you'll be waiting until next year before you actually get the car. I'm too impatient for that, and I can't imagine that Ford would make any drastic changes for 2012. You could just wait until November when info on the 2012s are released, and if there aren't any major changes, spring for a 2011 job #2 on the lot.

Of course, you never know. If Ford implements some kind of paddle shifter or SelectShift in the auto in 2012, I admit, I'd be pretty disappointed with myself. But hey, it's not that big of a deal either way. You can't always wait for the next greatest thing. It's the same thing with computers, phones, etc. By the time you get your 2012, it will be much closer to the time when 2014 Mustang info/rumors will be swirling, then you'll be wondering if you should wait for the 2014!

Hey Cornell, I'd wait for the 2012s if you haven't ordered yet.

It will be quite funny if/when they raise the price on the 2012 (probably be a few hundred bucks) for what will be the exact same car with probably little to no changes from the 2011 (I believe the sole reason they are calling the mid January and on built Mustangs 2012's instead of 2011's is because of the intro of the Boss which they are calling 2012 model. Ford doesn't want to build 2011 cars alongside a 2012 model).
So it's simply a marketing reason for calling the mid January 2011 and after build Mustang's 2012's instead of the more reasonable and sensical 2011's still. But you know they'll probably throw in a new color or change up an ordering option or something irrelevant just to make a "change" to go along with the change in model year designation.

But I know some really can't wait to order their 2013 in June 2011, or pre order the remodeled 2014 in March 2012.

I'll really laugh my butt off when come mid March 2011 when some dealers may have brand new 2010, 2011 and then 2012 Mustangs sitting on their lots. Retarded Ford.

Glad I got my 2011 when I did, timing was perfect for waiting just long enough to make sure their wasn't any issues with the new 5.0 or transmissions, but still early enough that I feel like I'm one of the earlier owners as I have driven around for weeks now and only came across 2 other 5.0's (and that's in So Cal....I didn't even see my first 5.0 driving on the streets until early August).

2012 will probably bring slightly higher price, probably worse interest rates and probably little to no changes from the 2011. Seems little to no reason to buy a 2012 in the first 3-4 months of it's production run.
I'd get a 2011 now with the $1000 rebate, or wait till the last day to order one and probably get one with $2000-3000 in rebates and maybe 1.9% or better financing on top of it by the time it's delivered.
Would make way more financial sense

I'm not waiting for the 2012. All I wanted was the 5.0, and thats what I'm gona get.

Lay out what you want, and when it becomes available, and you can afford it, buy it...

People buy when they are ready to buy.

I wasn't ready to buy one this year. I don't live in SoCal, it would be idiotic (IMO) for anyone in the snowbelt to order a Mustang past September and before January unless it was your daily driver and you don't care about getting a headstart in bodyrust by salting it straight away. Mine will be sleeping in the garage October to April every year, so I want to order for next spring, which just happens to mean it'll be a 2012. Yeah maybe the price will go up a little, but everything else is just hypothesis.
