Hurst handle to MGW conversion

I saw this on another board and decided to give it a try.

1. Purchased a Hurst handle and boot retainer from ebay
2. Bought a piece of 5/8 roundbar $3.00 a foot
3. Figured out the dimensions I wanted
4. Took everything to my buddies hot rod shop for fabrication

This is the end result. The throw is alittle longer because the handle is longer than the MGW shaft and ball but I like it and I can always adjust the throw on the bottom end of the MGW shifter.

Well IMO the MGW is the best shifter on the market for the 2005+ Mustang but I have always liked the Hurst handle and it's retro for my car theme.

Thanks Doug -

It's kinda nice to swap out handles every now and then. I have a Grabber Pony chrome shaft with a Mineral Grey ball, a Grabber Pony black shaft with a black ball and now the Hurst handle with the Ford racing ball. One more and I'll have a ball for all season's.

I was leaning towards the MGW but knew I had to have the Hurst handle for the retro look. I didn't think of modding the handle. Yours turned out great.

I wound up going with the Steeda Tri-Ax because I knew I could just bolt on the Hurst handle.

I can get these done for anyone who wants to do it. My cost on the welding the roundbar on is $40. I still have enough roundbar to do 2 more handles. There is a vendor selling the handle, boot retainer and ball on ebay. You pay the postage to and from and I will get it done for you. Link below to ebay vendor.

Thanks for the offer Rich as I just may take you up on it and get one made up as I plan to swap in a MGW at some point down the road. Looks like I can just get a new handle for $40 shipped as I don't need the grommet or ****.

What a great idea! I have been torn between the MGW and the Hurst shifters for a long time. I was leaning toward the MGW but I really like the look of the Hurst, as it always brought back memories of the Hurst fourspeed I had in my Roadrunner back in the day. This seems to be the ideal solution to this dilemma. Can I take you up on your offer?

I am going to charge a flat $75 for doing this in the future. That will cover the welding, shipping US Priority mail with $100 worth of insurance.

I have now done 4 of these and I would like to get alittle money for my time.

Finally finished mine up.

We cut and ground down the end of the Hurst stick, so we could make it sit alittle lower. Then had a friend of mine take a piece of 5/8th round bar, channel it, then weld in the Hurst stick.

We still have to ground down the welds and trim alittle off the round bar so I can drop the stick alittle more, but I think it came out great!

Sorry for the crappy cell picks. I installed it last night when we got home from the bar.. it was around midnight. Hope to get better picks today.

Thanks!

I had the MGW stick sitting pretty low before.. so I'd say atleast 2", maybe 3" higher.

I'll be able to drop the Hurst another inch or more once we trim the end & grind down the welds. The stick is actually bottoming out on the shifter's base in 4th and even if it wasn't the welds would prevent me from sliding it down any further as they are.

Good work

It looks like it sits higher than mine but if you cut some more the roundbar off the bottom you should be OK.
