Well, I just called the local custom paint shop, and the guy told me he could do a ghost flame job on my 05 for about $800, but he said that in order to do it properly, it would also need to be clear-coated to get rid of the edge that the flames leave on the paint. This would be a few more hundred, so that would bring my total to about $1200. Not quite as bad as I thought it would be.

Basically, to put on ghost flames they basically use the same color as the car, but add a little bit of pearl to it so that it sparkles a bit.

Those flames rock! The way they appear almost transparent in the right light . That would be impressive on an 05.

I would love to see what Chip Foose (Overhaulin) could do with an 05! His flames (and cars) always turn out awesome!

I certainly have. Although this guy has not done a lot of ghost jobs, I've seen his work on flame jobs in general...most of them on low-riders. He does very nice work. He seems to be a straight-shooter as well, and I would hope that I can recognize one, as I've taken quite a few body shop classes at my local community college, and I had some very nice flames painted on my 79 Hurst/Olds.

I think you should just get multicolored, metallic decal flames. Removable and redesignable. ANY paintjob always gets me nervous and I would be bored in a few years.

My 66 got a ghost flame job last month. It's a black pearl that doesn't have a major color shift, which I like. In some light it really stands out as a pearlescent silvery grey, in other light you can barely see it.

It was a friend of a friend deal, but I got this flame job for $500 total. It's not absolutely perfect, but I surely got my moneys worth. I really don't think +/- $1,200 for a really good flame job is bad at all.

$1,200 is what I paid last summer for awsome ghost flames on my white 96 GT vert. The artist used colbot blue with majenta tips. He did outline the flames with blue pinstiping. When the sun hits them just right they POP! I know it's just looks, but man it gets plenty of attention, trophies too.
If I lern how to use this site I'll post pictures.
