How do you remove the windshield wiper arms?

I'm installing a washer nozzle relocation kit (The CDC one) and as per the instructions to remove the arms you need to loosen the 13MM nut, then apply pressure from the bottom side on the wiper arm (like you are pulling it off) and "tap" the loosend nut to release the arm from the stud.

This isn't working for me so I must be doing something wrong. I am unsure how far I am supposed to loosen the nuts and not sure how hard to tap the nuts. I tapped them lightly and with a little force (afraid to go harder in fear of damaging the wiper assembly) while applying the needed pressure and nadda.

Help!
