Headers, o2 sensors, need a tune or not?

Headers, o2 sensors, need a tune or not?

I installed headers and xpipe w high flow cats recently shortly after that I threw a o2 sensor code? Question is do I need to get a tune for the headers on a otherwise stock engine? I read somewhere around here that a tune wasn't needed. 64k miles I shouldn't need sensors.

The suddent change in flow could have burnt the sensor out ya know, 60,000 is a good bit of miles, But as far as the tune , you can get a tuner which would increase HP, Torque , and gas milage and you can get the tuner to turn the code off, thats what i'm doing with mine, JBA LT header and JBA off road pipes , i told the guys at SCT i needed the O2 sensor code off and BAM!!!! it was off haha.

In short, yes. The high flow cats are probably so high flow its confusing the o2 sensors. this happened to my friend. Plus a tune would only help!

I have a full Bassani exhaust excluding headers and it did not require a tune.

X pipe
Hi-Flo cats.

I do believe that with headers you need a tune though.

Like i said, some cats are "too high flow", and throw off the sensors.

I have a intake and tune but removed that when I started throwing the code to see if that would make a difference. It didn't. The tune wasn't for the headers just the intake. I still need to be able to pass emissions so I don't know if I can shut the o2's off and still pass. In the past before the headers I would return to stock for testing. I guess I will order up a tune or two. Going to pull a plug and see what it looks like. I just didn't want to spend the cash on tunes right now. I wondering if I'm burning rich or lean??

I passed with mils for the rear O2's on my 2000. Same thing, they plugged into my computer, Wich is just to check for codes, and I passed. Black exhaust fumes is rich... Idk about lean.. get your tunes from bama, free for life!

free tunes for life if I buy all my parts from them?? but yea I was thinking about them or brenspeed or steeda or a couple of other places.

Nope, if you have. Sct tuner already, I think its like $150 for tunes for life. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.. or buy the Sct tuner from them, $380, and it comes with free tunes for life.

2. Long tubes or Shorties? (Yes it matters)

Long tubes really need a tune. The o2 sensors are further from the engine and the temps of the exhaust are slightly cooler and the flow is slightly different. This causes the o2s to switch on and off differently and they might indicate a lean condition.

It was bank one upstream first, then I unhooked the battery next time it came up bank two upstream. I removed my intake and tune, installed the stock tune and the check engine light came back on again. i haven't had it checked since it came back on. Long tube headers.

Yup... upstream o2 sensors... they sit further downstream than factory with longtube headers. Get a tune and the codes will go away and the car will run better
