Romeo! Windsor is being idled/closed down in 2008.... My 81 T-bird has a Windsor 302 and there's a long history of great V8s coming out of there...

The only designation I'm aware of has to do more with body type and engine rather than engine alone.

T80=V6 coupe
T82=GT coupe
T84=V6 convertible
T85=GT convertible
T88=GT500 coupe
T89=GT500 convertible

FYI: The engine code for the 4.6 3V used in the GT is 99H. Generally speaking it's known as a modular or MOD motor. Sorry. None of these are very sexy sounding.

Badges? We don't need no stinking badges! I always thought one of the lamest things Chevy ever did was stamp badges all over their motors. Like their V6's aren't 3.1 ,3.4, or 3.8L. They're "3100 SFI", "3400", and "3800 Series II". Or even worse when they actually put stuff like "3.1L MULTIPORT" on the EXTERIOR of the car! I guess people in the know would figure out what kind of power you were making based on the numbers stamped on the intake plenum. The thing is, everyone knows the S197 GT makes 300hp, so what's the point?

I agree. I find the "Triton" name to be kind of along the same lines as the GM badging - redundant and unnecessary. I guess the Mustangs don't need a fancy name to represent at the track. The 1/4 ETs and trap speeds speak for themselves!!

Guess they should have badged it "America"... as it's obviously a "Horse with no Name". Sorry, couldn't resist. Peace out.

I'll just call mine the GT engine. If I'm not mistaken , Ford hasn't put this particular engine in any other model line, right?

They put it in the Exploder and the 5.4L 3V V8 debuted in the 04 F-150. Technically the S-197 GT's 4.6 3V V8 is a derivative of the 5.4L 3V V8 or vice versa (chicken/egg).
