There is a 2008 GT500 with 4500 miles at the dealer I ordered my 2011 from. My question is should I purchase the GT or GT500. They are both around $39,000. The GT500 is in perfect shape, I'm finding hard to make the decision. Any help is appreciated!

GT-500.... It should hold it's value and it's a Cobra!!!!!

It all depends what you want out of your Mustang. If you want a daily driver, get the 2011 GT. If this is a weekend / fun car, get the GT500.

The GT500 will definitely hold its value better.

I am going thru the same type of discussion in my mind as well...2011 GT vert or a 2010 GT500 vert (maybe even an 11GT500 vert) however I won't buy until the end of this year.

I am leaning towards the Shelby at this time...

That might be a difficult decision. Oddly enough some of the magazine times for the 2008 GT500 match the better times for the 5.0, but it's going to depend on what you want it to do. The GT500 is heavier but has a more powerful engine, and I suspect it will straight line do a bit better than the 5.0, but it likely won't handle as well around corners. The GT500 also has a Supercharger, so bare all that in mind if you're going to make it a daily driver (also bare in mind the gas mileage).

That said, I don't know any better if this is a King of the Road edition or just a regular GT500. The GT500KR was, at the time (which given this was two years ago, that's pretty recent) said to be the best Mustang ever made. If it's a KR, I'd be pretty tempted by it too. I saw a KR in a dealer lot around here six months ago. Today I kinda regret not asking if it was for sale.

Get the 500. The magazine times are horrible because of the wheel hop. A set of lower control arms and tires will eliminate that. The car is a very low 12 second contender if you get it to hook. You also have a better and stronger platform for big power. Your a pulley swap and cold air intake away from 500 rwh. If your serious about open track/scca events the frpp handling pac is all you need and will only set you back 2k installed. Make sure you check if the car was built after august of 08 when the new style clutch was installed. If it was built before make sure the clutch tsb has or will be done by a dealer you trust. Btw 39k is too much for the car. you should be able to get it for around 36k.

I'd drive both before making the decision.
As much as I love the old GT500s from 07-09... the newer car just has all the right features and speed that I need for 99% of the time.

If you plan on modding and speed is your end goal as well as collectibility... the GT500 will satisfy that.
Looks are subjective as well, so it all depends on your personal preference.
Make a decision YOU'LL be happy with.

Long term i'd go Gt500 but one thing I'm really looking forward to since I'm driving an 05prem now is the 2011's upgraded interior. I'm currently rocking a 13per gallon mile fuel mileage on my daily driver so I looking forward to this new NA engine as well.

I wonder if you wait til the end of year, if you can find a good price on a 2010 Gt500, good luck though.

They aren't holding their value that well. Don't expect a repeat of the 60's muscle cars 25 years from now.

If it was my choice I'd take a loaded 2011 GT over a 08 GT500.

I'd take the 2011 GT. The extra straight line speed of the GT500 is something I would only be able to enjoy occasionally. The new and improved interior of the 2010+ is something I can enjoy every day. Call me a girly-man, but I highly doubt that I will often (if ever) think to myself when driving my 2011 GT that this car could be fun if only it had another 100 or so horsepower.

I would get the 11. Paying 35~39k for a USED car is not my cup of tea, I could care less if its a GT500. Also with that you have no ideal how hard that car was flogged on. Its meant to be driven, so yeah..it probably was.

The new 5.0 with its tech will be a very nice vehicle. Also we have not even seen the upgrade potential. So yeah, I would get the 11, and know that if any flogging going to be done, you're the one doing it.

As for your dream, there's your answer. I much prefer the 08 rear end over the 11, and the 5.4 is tried and true. Probably won't have any probs with the 5.0 but... it is the 1st year...

I'd get the 500 - as long as the higher insurance and lower fuel mileage won't hurt your budget too bad. And I think 39k is a bit high. But only 4500 is almost like a brand new car - and you're still under warranty.

I skimmed the first post so I didn't realize they are both $39k. That is too high for a 2008 GT500 no matter the mileage. It's worth mid 30's at best. Is the GT $39k sticker? If so you should be able to get it close to invoice which is thousands less.

The GT sticker is 40,247 before X plan wich should be around 37,700 i think. I dont think I would pay more than 37,500 for the GT500, but the salesman was pretty clear they wanted 39. I am going today after work to test drive it. We shall see....tough decision!
