I've seen 67-68 Shelby Trans-Am Coupes, but did they also build/race 65-66? When was Trans-Am started?

Mustang coupes were used in the Trans Am series from 1966 thru 1968. There were 16 Shelby-built 66 coupes. They were very similar to the Shelby R-models, but were required by rules to have 4 seats, steel hood, and several other details.

GOOD reading here.

Wouldn't a street Trans Am coupe relica be a BLAST?

I've actually debated (several times) :bang: parting with my car to build something like that...

OR.... Think about a 69-70 Eliminator clone with the same drivetrain, including the IRS. Since the 03 Cobra was code-named "Terminator" at Ford, I'd just HAVE TO change the side stripe from Eliminator to Terminator... Roll that on some billet 17" Magnums...

Some many ideas, so little time (and $$$)!

Man that is scary. I too have had the same thoughts with regards to a 69-70 Eliminator, and a 1969 Boss 429 Clone. (Without the IRS, and a stroked and supercharged 396 (stroked 351), though a 03-04 Cobra motor would be very sweet).

Time and Money! Need more of Both . . and Space!

There were '65 Group 1 Rallye coupes, built and prepared by Holman-Moody (IIRC). Some of the modifications made for that competition was not legal for early Trans-Am which used Group II guidelines.

All--

FYI

I may be moving this thread to the ‘Ford Motorsports’ Thread. It seems to be heading more in lines with that thread.

Everybody cool with that if I do?
