Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers in Busch Series...2009
Pony Cars Coming To Series: NASCAR hopes to inject new life into its Busch Series by changing the types of cars raced, beginning as early as 2009, according to multiple sources familiar with the project. If plans go according to schedule, the next-generation Busch Series cars will be Chevy Camaros, Dodge Challengers, Ford Mustangs and an as-yet-to-be named Toyota model, sources said. Ford overhauled the Mustang as a 1960s-retro model in 2005, to positive critical and commercial results. Chevrolet and Dodge will release similarly retro-themed Camaros and Challengers, respectively, by the 2009 model year. The Mustang, Camaro and Challenger all are two-door coupes with rear-wheel drive and available V-8 engines, a hugely popular combination in the halcyon days of 1960s muscle cars. A switch to these cars - plus whichever model Toyota chooses to campaign - would make a huge amount of sense, as it would help the Busch Series have its own distinct identity apart from Nextel Cup and help remove the stigma of the series as "Cup Lite," as some call it now. Sources familiar with the project said NASCAR has discussed the idea of switching cars with the manufacturers and has received a positive reception for the idea.(SPEEDtv.com)(9-15-2007)

Sweet! You mean the Fusion isn't Ford's 'fast' car?

Technicly, the Fusion withh still be the "top" series car and thus faster. The Bush cars will have the same sort of downgrades compared to Cup as now, but with Muscle-car bodies.

Ford should start using Taurus (again) instead of Fusion.

The Taurus certainly looks more like the COT than the Fusion!

NO, what would be cool is if they make the manufacturers start with a REAL car and build a race car!! Of course Ford would be light years ahead because they already have the FR500.

If they use stock cars imagine how many deaths NASCAR would have.

Not really. Most of cars back then couldn't hit 200 mph which is something that all cars can hit easily today.
There were many deaths on tracks back then. Like Edward "Fireball" Roberts who was first NASCAR big star. Or Tiny Lund. Bobby Isaac. Joe Weatherly. Marshall Teague. Marvin Panch almost died, but luckily he was pulled from the car before car exploded.
And those are just well known drivers. There are probably many more drivers who died while racing who are not well known to public.

I like the idea!!! Maybe Cup drivers will be Cup Drivers and Busch Drivers will have a real shot.

Koni challenge cars are plenty safe for the speeds they would go on NASCAR oval's! That's what I have been wanting to see for a long time.....real cars dukeing it out like Austrailian V8 Super Cars or Koni Challenge Cars do!!!
