Under Hood Liner Replacement

I need to replace my under hood liner. I attempted to paint the running ponies and proved I am no artist. The liner was falling part all ready around some of the pins anyway so I am not to upset at having to replace it. Actually kind of upset that it was falling apart on a car with only 11k on it.

I found one replacement at WMS http://www.wmsracing.com/pgi-ProductSpec?WMS-SHB05M, but not sure if it will serve the same purpose since it is made of different material. Does anyone have any recommendations if this will work, should I just by another stock one or if there are any other brands for a 2007 Mustang GT?

Thanks,

Gary

I got the WMS one without the pony label. It is plastic and can be just wiped off with a damp cloth. It fits and they supply the fasteners. Still got a few areas where it sags. They provide some two-sided tape which held except in one spot where I used a small screw. Its an improvement over the stock and alot easeir to take care of.

Its funny how that things costs 10 bucks more in Canadian currency, eventhough the Canadian dollar is now worth more than the American.

After I put my Saleen SC on it rubbed in a few places and I wanted to replace it. After a local car show my wife and me attended, my wife saw a Firebird that had Mirrors under the Hood. I found a RV outlet localy that had end cuts of Plastic Mirrors. So for 60 bucks here is what I did.

They are attached with velcro and are removable for driving

Do you really need it anyway? what is it's real purpose? I'm about ready to take mine off and detail the under hood skin.

You might want to consider an '08 Mustang underhood liner if you want to upgrade to a new Ford Racing cold air intake (similar to what is in the '08 Bullitt). It is shaped to form a seal around the airbox.

I have the WMS one, no pics currently sorry. It fits pretty well once you get the double sided tape in there. I get a little rubbing with my plenum cover but since it's black when you wipe it down it's hard to notice. It cleans up nice with ICE spray detailer. I plan to either replace the hood or maybe get a shaker this year so the rubbing doesn't bother me.

Not sure how true this is but I saw it in a thread a while back. It indicated that the liner might surve to put out an engine fire as it might melt, fall onto the engine and smother the fire.

I removed mine a year ago and have no problems with hood paint so it does not need to be there to protect the exterior hood paint.

The only problem is that on some cars, Ford seems to have skimped out on the paint and the entire underhood surface may not be painted.

Thanks. and that was my next question too. It appears to have some glue or tape besides the pins holding it on. Soooo, I guess I'll have to be more careful than planned when I remove it. I really don't like it at all. U G L Y !! Hope mine is painted fully. or is plan B.

dly and others that have removed the stock hood liner from the stock GT hood:

Did you notice the hood liner "protruding" in spots where the hood was flat? It appears from dly's photographs that the hood has some pockets but is relatively flat. My stock hood liner is sort of raised around the fake hood scoop area but I am not sure if there is anything under that.

My WMS one cracked at the front part of the hood after just a year. Just took the whole thing off last week. Just an FYI

It's interesting that there is an indentation in the 2008 hoodliner that appears to be "cut" for a strut tower brace.
