Stock mufflers
Guys
Is there any physical difference between the mufflers on a 2005 GT coupe and a GT 'vert? They have different part numbers, but are they interchangeable?
Cheers
Paul

I thought they were the same Paul and to be honest with you.. I never knew they had different part numbers.. Sorry that I couldn't be more helpful

Thanks...........I thought they were the same, too. Pretty sure you don't get the option of coupe/vert when you buy aftermarket, which makes me think the stock ones would be interchangeable.

I totally agree with you and makes perfect sense to me as well..
In the meantime, I'll call my local Ford dealership and find out from the parts dept if there's any difference.. As soon as I find out, I'll post it here for you..

That's very kind of you, and much appreciated
The background to my query........a member of our UK Club wants a set of stock mufflers to replace his aftermarket Roush ones (too noisy for him!) on his GT coupe. Another member offered his stock mufflers that were on his old GT 'vert, but I was aware of differing part numbers and, obviously, want to ensure the guy gets what he needs (they won't be cheap to ship, after all!)
I have my old stock mufflers available too, but didn't want to "steal" a sale from the first guy, just because his are from a 'vert.
Therefore, any confirmation would be very much appreciated from your friends across the pond
Cheers

Here's what I found out from my dealership's parts dept.. There are no physical differences between an 05 stock GT coupe over the Vert as far as mufflers are concerned.
The reason for the part numbers being different are all 05 and up models equipped with manual transmissions have different part numbers from those equipped with automatic transmissions.. It doesn't matter if it's a coupe or vert model.
The part numbers are different only because the mufflers are tuned differently for the 05 and up models which have the manual transmissions over those with automatic transmissions.. However when replacement mufflers are required ? Ford uses the same mufflers for both models regardless of which model and transmission was installed by the factory..
So the answer to your question is.. Yes the stock mufflers are indeed interchangeable Paul..
Anyway, hope you find this info more helpful and best of luck to you..

I didn't realize this until I found out from someone I know who works in the parts dept. at my local Ford dealership today..
So now we know why there is a sound difference and reason behind the different part numbers.

My guess is.. Being as the GT500 has the larger 5.4 -5.8 along with its larger 3.5 inch exhaust ? Chances are the mufflers from a regular stock GT will not fit a GT500 as they are too small
