spark plug TSB
Just hit 42k on my 05 and wanted to change the plugs but cant find the TSB. Will the dealer change them as a warranty if a TSB is active? What plugs are you guys going to? Not expecting any gains but dont want to waste any money either.

My understanding is that spark plugs are maintenance items and the platinum factory plugs are supposedly good to 100K miles. Warranty does not cover maintenance items, so Ford will not cover them. The TSB is for mechanics use in case they run into trouble removing plugs - it is not a recall.

I'd rather do this now at 45k before the plug really has a chance to seize in there. At 100K, it'll be a real bitch to remove and then I might break a few plugs

Not necessarily gonna break, but it is certainly possible. I have personally changed my own plugs twice now (12K miles and 20K miles). No problems either time as I followed the Ford TSB to the letter.

My former-former boss has his Lincoln Mark X in for 95K miles, and the thing really needs to have the plugs changed, it's boggin' and running badly.
They say it's gonna be 3 days to get the things out. He's stressin' bad bad bad. The 5.4 is also susceptible to this problem, apparently, and they're seized bad... of course, I also think that it is a case of "oh, dammit. Another one of these bastards." and they're draggin' their feet on it... Anyway, Awesome just had her 45K oil change and I'm seriously indecisive about tackling the things myself so I can put the anti-seize on them... Or should I take them in to a Ford place... or maybe just say screw it and replace the engine at 100K or so... ![]() /that last was silly, I know. //or was it? Perhaps a built, supercharged, nitrous monster...

After reading all the hype about Mustang 3V plugs on the interweb, I was aprehensive about doing the job myself so I went and talked to the dealer about the cost for them to do it. The service manager gave me the regular speach, quoted their 8 cyl tuneup and guaranteed that would be the price. I mentioned what I had read about the 3V motor and he laughed, said that was only ever an issue on trucks and they had NEVER broken a plug in a Mustang, once again guaranteed that "they knew what they were doing" and it would not be an issue.
I'm not naive, or blindly believing a service manager at a dealer...but man, are people making a bigger deal about this than they need to be?

Id let them do it if he would put it in writing that there would be no additional charges in the even that some of the plugs break.

Ex-Boss got his truck back, it was basically $400 a side, but your dealer may vary.
