When I put mobil 1 oil and filter in my 1999 V6 Mustang, my gas mileage went up about 1 mpg...

Use Mobil 1 in all my cars

I use Mobil 1 in all my cars, and have been rewarded with an average of 2 mpg improvement in mileage. Last summer, my stang clocked a best MPG of 25.5 between Omaha and the Colorodo state line. (OK so its flat, but I was going 80).

A side benefit is that Mobil 1 doesn't thicken up when cold, so its easier to start cars in Wisconsin winters when it's 20 below.

As far as durability, Schneider National (the big orange semis) uses Mobil one exclusively. They change the oil every 100,000 miles and only replace filters between oil changes unless an oil sample says to do differently. The 3000 mile oil change is the biggest waste of reources in a modern car, which is why every manufacturer is extending its oil change intervals.

I use Mobil 1 as well. I get around 26mpg. Before, when I was letting the dealership change my oil, I was getting around 24mpg.
I do a lot of highway driving in my daily trek to and from work.

While I do agree with the basic statement, I did want to point out that those engines have three VERY important things going for them:

1) Huge oil capacity. The displacement of those engines is larger than ours, but the oil capacity is many TIMES greater. The more oil in the system, the more diluted any garbage gets, so the longer it takes to build up to problem levels.

2) Bypass oil systems. In addition to the "normal" full flow, large particle oil filter, they also have bypass oil systems that filter out very small particles of "stuff". Out engines don't have these systems.

3) A duty cycle that is very heavy weighted towards the "running" state. Much less heat cycles means less moisture getting into the crank case and reacting with other stuff to form acids. Plus, when they are started, they are almost always ran for hours and hours. Plenty of time to burn off any moisture that did get in there.

It all adds up to make the big rigs quite a bit easier on oil. But we do change our oil way too often. Dino OR synthetic.

No question to the benefits

I Use Mobil 1 in all of my cars, including the GT. I change after the first 1000 miles and every 5k thereafter.

Best example: 175k miles on a 1994 Explorer that I purchased new. Mobil1 every 5k miles. Had the intake & injectors cleaned at 110k - dealer said there was no sludge and no visible wear. I've driven many vehicles past 140k miles - never had any engine troubles.

I have had the same gas mileage improvements others posted. In addition, you get 3-5HP improvement.

I just started w/ Mobil 1 cuz I only average about 5000 a year. so I'm gonna get my oil changed only once a year. Saves me time and a little money

It only costs about 30 for a regular oil change...60 for Mastercraft Pure Synthetic...70 for Mobile1.... is it truely worth it?

I believe it was last year, in an issue of either Mustang Monthly or Mustangs and Fords, there was an article on just this subject.... maybe it was in MM&FF... not sure. They used regular motor oil, synthetic blend, and then full synthetic in a crate engine. Dyno'd under the same conditions, three pulls with each oil... The full synthetic averaged 10hp more than the regular oil. I moved and didn't save the magazines... anybody remember this article?

$70!! Dude, do it yourself and it will cost under $30, you can get 5qt jugs at wal-mart for $22.50. another quart and a motorcraft filter will put you around $29ish. Easiest car I've ever changed oil on. Filter is right there super easy to get to. A set of rhino ramps and it's a 15 minute change.

Your local Advance/DAP will take the oil at no charge...they all do. Heck, I have a place near me that will even pay me for my oil and my filter. Free oil disposal isn't hard to come by. Want a challenge? Find somebody who will dispose of your antifreeze for free in a truly rural area.

I just changed from Mobil1 (used since day one in both vehicles) to Motorcraft Synthetic blend. The mileage in both of our vehicles (my 05 w/36K on it and wife's 2001 Escape V6 auto w/108K on the clock) has gone up. My average MPG was previously 15-16MPG (I drive 13 miles to work, mostly city), and now it's a solid 17. Go figure.

You still have to load it in the car ,drive, take it out,and bring it in to the store...sounds easy but somehow it sits in my garage forever...

Just switched to Mobil 1 last night and my MPG went up by about 3. The old oil was about as dark as night and full of gunk. Def. helped save some gas.
