Could it be? houtex gets a GT?! No wai!

Hi all! *waves* Been a while... I semi lurked... keep checkin' on Arin's progress here and there... but things have been... fun lately. I've not been here in quite a while. I must go check out that thread again after this!

Anyway, 'nuff 'bout me. I have a couple of questions. There's an '06 GT that I'm thinkin' about now. I'm pretty sure I'm buyin' it... but I need it to be tweaked, of course. Rather than attempt to slog though thread after thread, search after search, I's kinda hopin' some of you nice peoples would clue me in if ya wouldn't mind...

1) Grilles. Is there yet a completely black honeycomb grille? Just the honeycomb? Kinda like a plain '65 Mustang one, ya know what I mean? No horse, no lights, just a grille for a GT?

1a) Barring that, weird idea... would a '65 grille fit?

2) It's got the 17" painted aluminum wheels. I want the 17" bright machined aluminum. As I just want a swap out... how would I best go about this? Find a set of take offs at a Discount tire or such? Ebay? Thoughts? I don't mind payin' an acceptable sum for the process and trouble, of course... I just think they look better for what I want, and always wanted them.

3) If I have the Vin (and I do) does anyone know how I'd get the equipment list? I could just go ask, get the keys, start pokin' about to see... but, hey... I'm weird, and would like to know what it's really supposed to have in the first place.

I do know it's got the manual, which is what I want, and it's white with a black leather interior. Those seats will be redone pronto like. No likey leather, no likely all black. I'll go get a junkyard seat to sit in while they get redone, and then get the mats to match, as well as come up with fabric and do the door panels myself. All that in red, of course. I may even go ahead and custom up the carpet, but I dunno. Does Ford sell moulded red carpet for 05-09s? That'd be so very sweet.

And I'll have to figure out what to do about the fog lights, I suppose, seeing as how I'll be removing them from the grille (and I will be doing *some* plain black grille, guaranteed) Probably some facia... and a blank panel in the back... that's pretty much it. Not a terrible much, I think...

Of course, no Q and hopefully A session would be complete if I didn't ask the "are there any big issues with the car I should look out for?" question... like the TSB re: hood bubbles, or maybe the fuel filling issue... that kind of thing? Big, small, is there a FAQ on these? Tried to find it... got confused... that's what I get for bein' out so long... Sorry.

Thanks in advance, and I hope to soon be in the ranks (finally, if I may add.)

/of course, I'd have to change the sig... and the Avatar... no big deal... White with red & black suits me fine, as shown below... Heh.

I saw the screename... I thought to myself... COULD IT BE?!?!?!

And it was Glad to see you back

1) you can probably use the bullitt grille no problem Look alright to you?

2) I'm sure you could find a set of takeoffs on ebay and use the stockers as winter wheels, or even sell them for about what you paid right back on ebay. Maybe your dealer has some in stock too? They'll probably charge more, but it doesn't cost a dime to ask

I don't know anything about is #3, sorry

Not sure about a red carpet, again might want to ask the dealer.

I can't help with the FAQ part, I don't gots an S197 myself

Have you asked local shops how much a repaint in emberlgo would be?

If you do decide on the bullitt grille, might want to send a PM to 05StangKC, alot of folk on the forum buy factory parts from him.

Another one bites the dust...

I'm one of the few early 2004 joiners that still lurks, and hasn't pulled the trigger yet.

I remember you from way back. Congrats!

If you are looking for new carpet you should ckeck out Auto Custom Carpets. They are located in Anniston, AL. They sell through a several car mags, I've most recently seen them in California Mustangs Catalogue, and MM&FF. They do Custom carpets in most models new and old and can do almost any color you want. I've seen some of there stuff in local cars and it looks good.

Here is their link. http://www.accmats.com/Company/Career.aspx

*waves again*

Well, as I write this, the 2006 Mustang GT Coupe is in my carport. I had it all done on Wednesday night!

I drove it to my Mom and Dad's that night... then to my brother's Command Station (he's a ) and showed it to him... He had said "yeah, sure you're gettin' a car. I'll believe it when I see it." That was several nights ago... I think that is what prodded me along. So I had to show it.

Anyway, it's "mine" (as "mine" as a vehicle with a loan can be, heh.) and... wow. I've *never* settled in to a car so very fast. I was done piddling and figuring out things in about 2 hours. A record.

It took me, for example, 3 months to finally get ok with my 95 Mark VIII. About that for my 87 Mark VII, and that was the best car I *ever* owned... I'm hopin' the GT will surpass it, and so far...

Even the 86 SVO took mew a month and a half, if I recall right... And the 96 HoopTBird was about 3 weeks... It was a *real* comfy car, even though it was a hunk of merely adequate.

But 2 hours. Never. Ever. This car was meant for me. And I for it. It was density... uh, I mean, Destiny.

I'm so very happy right now, it's kinda painful. Is that what some of you out there experienced when you got your ponies? Or am I just really really zealous about the thing I've wanted since 2003 and need to stop obsessing?

Ok, about the car, maybe... here's what I got:
2006 Ford Mustang GT Coupe.
5 speed manual transmission.
Performance White
Ebony (?) Leather interior.
Shaker 500
IUP with MyColor (been cycling through and changing but currently it's Red. )
Spoiler
17" painted wheels.

The addons that came with it:
A hood only bra that is now off, no thanks. Plain hood please.
Chrome overlay grille, what make I dunno.
A big freakin' grin on my face.

It had 20900-ish miles when I got it. And showroom looks. The engine compartment is *awesomely* clean. Too bad I have it now. Ok, I'll do my best... but it's a daily driver, so... I'll still try. The flaws (and yes, I've found them) are few, and small. Not enough to talk about.

Frankly, though, I'm glad they're there. I like them when they've got a scratch or something, so I can get that paranoia outta the way. Heh.

The more I keep being in it... the more I like the all black interior in it. Go figure. Still not sold on the Leather though. Kinda hot in Houston, but I'm still rolling with the windows down at night... not terrible. Losing 50 pounds helps with that, I think.

Pretty much with the excption of the wheels and the leather... it's exactly what I'da gotten if I'd ordered one in 2006. Given they didn't have JV available then...

Anyway, I'm finally in the ranks. Whee!

Also, first fillup... no problems with it. Just gassed it up. And winced at the cost... but it'd be the same for 14 gallons anyway, so...

And it didn't read one of my MP3 CDs I'd made for my other car, but played another one fine... I don't get it. Oh well... I'll just figure out the format it wants and use it.

Um... Did I mention I love my car already? I did? Ok, just makin' sure.

/still thinkin' about the grille issue... the chrome blingness is growin' on me... I'll find which it is and post it, if it's important...
//All this love and it's gonna bite me... But that's ok. It'll be worth the sting... right?

I now am following up on posts in here...

Thanks for the WB Arin! And yeah... close... if only it didn't have the chrome... But the blingrille is workin' on me a little now...

Thanks Berol for the gratz and rememberin'.

heh, Tread... funny. No, it's really me, the one and only houtex. City of Heroes ruled my world for a bit and I was all up in those forums helpin' people... Game itself still kinda does but buyin' a car and then enjoyin' it a little... plus the hectic werk... it's hard to play it. I've retired from those forums for now.

Low, that's *awesome.* Thanks. I've already picked it out... although I'm currently kinda diggin' the blackness inside... I feel like a predatory aminal starin' out of it's cave, waitin' to pounce on some unsuspecting Chevy...

Wow, in Cutpile they have a *ton* of reds to choose from... I'd probably have to get a few samples to match my seats... if they ever get done...

Oh, it also has tint all 'round... so there's that.

And... I mentioned my infatuation with my automobile?

I need a name... Muskrat was the other one... Hm... Muskrat II sounds... sickening... if it were a '78 Muskrat II, it'd be ok. Heh.

It'll come to me... Oh, and pics? I'll see what I can do... No digital camera, just a cameraphone. It's not *bad* but...

/Old fashioned about pics... Love my old fashipned Minolta Semi Auto SLR.

Old fashioned or not, go take some and scan them Glad you have your car my friend, and amazed at how quickly you got used to it. My Bullitt took me a month or so to really get a feel for. The II is the only car where everything makes total sense to me

Red carpet sounds like a great idea, you should do it. Heck, I want to do it!

Now what are you doing online. Go put some miles on that baby!

Yeah, I was kinda surprised at that too... I swear, it was like we were made for each other.

I also figured out that 2006 is the 42nd anniversary of the Mustang... so this year was the Ultimate Answer year for Mustangs. Has to be something about that in there...

BTW, painting a car in Emberglo would cost $4 grand... and that's if I help take things apart. No, White's good, Arin. Thanks tho!

Besides, the white reminds me of Muskrat and is easin' the pangs I have for her and my stupidity for sellin' her.

I'll get pics tomorrow, k? I've been at work, and lighting at night is... well, sucky, to say the least. I'll have them up sometime in the evening when I get back from my grandma trip. Haven't seen her in a bit, won't she be surprised at this? Heh.

Why am I online? Lesse... I'm pumped about my car, wanna spread my enthusiasm, figured here's a good place... seems to be workin! I'll be puttin' the miles on her tomorrow, promise!

Oh, and Arin, I've been checkin' your II thread out. Man, you're comin' along quite nicely with it! Gotta Barricade look to it, right, with that nerf bar. As my first was a '78 II, I'm jazzed to see yours bein' done up. Keep up the good fun work on it, yeah? Oh, and about the 10 holes on the front... An industrial dremel, some welding with some gussets and such... and all that scraping will be gone... just a suggestion...

/I'm sure I don't know what I'm talking about... Or do I...?

Awesome - that's the same car I have except mine's an '05 Screaming Yellow, and I got the Active Alarm - other than that, same options.

I haven't had any problems with my Shaker 500 either - it seems to play any normal CD or CD-R with MP3 files - but I did replace the factory 6x8 speakers with poly Pioneers and there is a noticeable difference.

I'd definitely ditch that bra too. I bought a used Laser Red '95 GT back in 1998 where the previous owner had put a bra on the car, and there was a noticeable difference where the paint had faded slightly everywhere on the car, except where the bra was (it must have been parked in the sun all the time?). To each his own...

Good luck with it!

I'm sorry to be longwinded... I have just so very much funstuff to say!

No pics... too busy. Sorry. Kinda hard to get pics when you're in the thing driving it...

I did get the kiddos all in the car and gofast was applied. My niece cackled like a crazed rollercoaster rider. She liked the power spin to the left on take off followed by the 0-40 in first. Her other grandma (not my mom) was having fun in it too.

My sister's boys also liked it quite a bit. I didn't do much power stuff, but I did the 0-40 for them real quick.. Grins all around.

And I drove it gentlemanly for my octogenarian grandmother... who liked it much. And Mom fits in the back, so that was actually good stuff to get figured out! I was worried about her headroom back there.

I actually like the painted standard 17" wheels now. Although, really, I would like to see them totally black and glossy instead of the argent, but... small quibble. The blingrille I am now good with. So it's gonna stay. And even the fogs, as much as I wasn't real happy with their looks... well... now... I kinda get a kick outta them things. I never woulda guessed these things!

I *LOVE* my Stangness.

Except for the leather... BTW, I'm sorry, that's not charcoal. That's ebony. I don't care what Ford or anyone else calls it. In any case, it's gotta go. I just can't stand it that much. Oh, it's not bad with the holes in it for breathing... but it's still in Houston. It's still too hot for me. So... I'm gonna get some seats outta a wrecked 'stang (Teh Horrors! Shut mai mouths!) and get them covered in as black a material as I can get. I am in complete love with the entire black interior though, so the whole red idea? Nope, it's gonna stay sinister and evil inside. Heh.

Probably why it's so dang hot to sit in, right? Anyway, I'll store the others. Maybe I'll figure out a way to mount them on stands so I can use them in the house... the back seat for a couch, and two bucket recliners? That'd be kinda cool... Freakin' Gearhead.

I do have a couple of questions for y'all now... I've decided that the standard MyColor Blue instrument panel is what's gonna stick. I've been through them all, and that one just pleases the heck outta me. So now it's white, black and blue... and green. Ugh.

Excepting the radio, which I am pretty sure that can't change, the rest of the lights on the switch gear... can it be changed to blue to match? That would be so uber if so... I imagine it's just a matter of finding blue tinted plastic that'll make it work... anyone done it?

Oh, and those lighted sill plates I saw somewhere... I understand those are in blue only. That works for me, of course... I'm toyin' with that idea...

Next... The hood bra that it came with (and which has since been stored away) made weird dents in the finish on the right side of the hood... I dunno how. I hate bras on cars... I thought at first they were just marks, but nope, they're dents. Not scratches, per se. They kinda look like divots at a well used tee box on a golf course.

In addition, as I saw this in another thread, I found the hood bubbles in the paint under the lip of the hood. That's still under a TSB and I should take it to Ford, right? They'll have to repaint it, yes? Would that also fix my bra dents in the right side of my hood? Or do they section the lip area in question?

Not that I'm thrilled about giving up my baby just yet... She's still so new... and my only ride at the moment... I'm sure they won't let me have a courtesy car for that... I can finagle one from my sources, of course... but the bubbles need fixing, so I'm thinking I need that done quickly, yeah?

That's the report and q's for today. Thanks so much for the welcome backs and grats. I'm thrilled to finally again be part of the family.

I *LOVE* my Stangness... Wait, I said that already, right? Well it bears repeating. Often.

I thought my posts were long....

For your hood woes, maybe just drop off the hood to be fixed and drive hoodless for a while? Not everyone's cup of tea, but if you need the car then you need the car...

no idea how to fix the radio lights but i do think that this white black and blue theme is gonna be pretty cool. maybe get some HIDs in there for that slight blue glow

Wow, Arin, that's a *GREAT* idea! Only just get another hood, swap it, get the one painted under the TSB, swap it back! I wonder if I can find a black hood... maybe a rear ender... That'd be pretty keen for a little while...

Thanks for finding that for me, Tread!

<.<

As if I didn't have enough to do without the Stangness "needs"... you go and enable more of my time sucking projects... Heh.

Pics very soon! I took some today, but my FTP stuff isn't working... stupid webspace provider switched stuff up again... Bah.

/I gotta change my avatar now... one more thing to do...

If you're getting a separate hood, why not get a cool aftermarket one and call it a day?

Because I like the hood the way it is... plain and stock. That's why.

I just want one so I can leave the hood and drive mah car.

Oh, and update... the cameraphone doesn't like Performance White in the sunlight... Hehe... I will have to drag out my film Minolta camera, get the pics on CD and then post them... That and get my ISP to fix my FTP access to my web presence... they been movin' stuff around... Sigh...

Further update... took it to the Ford dealer next to my work... nice guys all around! The passenger seat release handle on the back broke off... guy checked it out... covered! But I gotta show up on Thursday for it so they can take pics and what not... I dunno, whatever. Also, Stangness needs the airbag recall done on her, so that'll happen too.

And then he sent me to the body shop to check the hood out... that's guy's a Mustang guy. Likes my car... and the hood bubbles are... covered! All I have to do is leave the hood (it has to be taken off anyway, hence the spare hood idea... but that'd be silly. I just don't wanna be without wheels... and I don't want the engine bay to get rained on... that'd be my luck, don'tcha know...

Should kept the HoopTBird, eh? Nah... Dude did say maybe they can massage the bra marks out... that'd be sweet!

I got time to figure out the hood issue though... approximately 14000 miles worth of it.

Oh, anyone know how to get my end of warranty time date? When did it start, in other words? Is there a Ford site for that?

I love my Stangness. Love it love it love it.

*goes off to check out "cool" aftermarket hoods anyway*
