One thing you might want to check out is the PCV valve, just to make sure you are getting good suction through it. I know that was an issue with the 00's....
I'm just about to turn 80k on my 2000 v6 and I couldn't be happier.

Oh! I forgot...you might want to see if it has the original fuel pump (and filter) and replace. I've heard of a few people having knocking issues in the SN95's around this milage, due to a bad fuel pump.

Actually having a higher mileage with a newer car may not be that bad after all, it can't all be city miles which are VERY hard on cars. Interstate/highway miles are easy miles. If all you did was drive 100 miles a day on the interstate, I bet the drivetrain would last 300K miles no problem. (with many tires/shocks/oil changes/other small maintenance items)

You need to peak underneath the back of the car and decided if the gas tank is in a location where she will be safe if rear ended.

i heard about this a very very limited number of times with the crown vic interceptors b/c cops are always pulled over on the side of the road..

The PCV valve is on the drivers side of the engine. Basically you have to pull the valve out while the engine is on and put your finger up to the open end. There should be a ton of suction there...if there isn't you need to replace the PCV valve or the entire assembly....this is where it is:

I have a 96 V6 I bought brand new overall it has been a great car...I've never had to do anything major to it...I wish I could say the same for my new 06 SALEEN it has basically been in the shop since brand new

I have a 2003 ZX2 with 75.000 miles and not a single problem. With a high mileage 'newer' car there are less problems to be aware of. My ZX2 runs like a dream and would sell it to my own family.
I would certainly consider it for your daughter, just check it out thoroughly, give it a good test drive and hope for the best.
I would suggest that if you do buy it change all fluids and filters even if they dont need it and start routine maintanence as you mean to go on.

thats probably the strangest of all things that could have been said.. all of the 99-04 stangs have the gas tank in the same location so whats the difference.. this hasn't been an issue with these cars from my understanding.. i heard about this a very very limited number of times with the crown vic interceptors b/c cops are always pulled over on the side of the road..
